there is nothing left on this shell that is any good, only has one thing going for it and thats that one letter in the vin tag "R" hemi code

Troy

At least they washed it. People selling completed cars can't manage to do that half the time...

Troy
Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Don't look to bad compared to some of the Chargers I see people trying to attempt to restore in here.  :shruggy: It will rub/buff out.  :scratchchin: LEON.

Probably. And they will be hoping nobody knows they switched the vin to a solid 6 cylinder barracuda & restamped the motor when they try to sell for $300,000. +  :brickwall:

P.S. Fender tag, broadcast sheet & window sticker will magically appear.

?, since when did the firewall have the shaker hole in it. And if the last picture is of one of the vin rivets, how did he get the vin off without destroying the rivet or the vin hole  :shruggy:.

That last picture is the trunk lock on the tail end , look close in the original picture and you can see the 'cuda' shadow.

i'm kind of surprised that in 2016 , the car is still like it is ,  with the (insane  :image_294343: IMO ) prices anything  Hemi E body , thought sure it would of  been rebodied , years ago ::)  :yesnod:  ,

still  anything can be saved with out resorting to a body  swap , if you have the time & money & skill & now  with all the  AMD sheet metal etc   ... :yesnod: :scratchchin:

And looking at the VIN tag that doesn't match the deterioration of the car itself. Looks fishy to me...  :scope:

UFO

Something "fishy" about this barracuda. Pun intended?  :smilielol:

Someone will invest $100-$120k in it and flip it at Barrett Jackson or Mecum for $250-$275k you watch..

It still has the radiator support and trunk rails, so the VIN should be able to be identified with the hulk.

Agreed if they think of looking at that detail. Maybe they'll just stamp new ones and replace them... seems strange no pics were presented of those pieces tying the body to the title.

Mytur Binsdirti

68pplcharger

Just sent a message to the seller today to get pics verifying the title matches the body. He replied "I'm not willing to give out the complete VIN out, out of respect for the next owner."

:icon_smile_question: How would anyone bid without knowing if its actually a match to the Title/VIN...  :shruggy:

Some gullible people would as well as people trying to create a numbers matching car to flip at a crazy price.

E-Bodies had the numbers stamped on the cowl and the rad support.....not in the trunk area like B-bodies.
Does the guy show those numbers? He mentions they are there.

crj1968

He states that both hidden VINS are readable and match the dash and title. So looks to be legit Hemi car.

It will undergo a restoration similar to the Stephens Daytona I recon.

68pplcharger

He did know the correct location, but won't let you see them to match body and title.

charger_fan_4ever

He states in the ad that people are welcome to inspect before bidding. I assume anyone serious about buying this pile would check it out first tomake sure the dicks are all aligned.

On flip side I probably wouldn't want to give out the vin either as all kinds of scammers out there that could repop a vin considering its current state.

Alaskan_TA

Quotescammers out there that could repop a vin

Could or did? It looks decades newer than any other part of the car to me.

I thought the same. That is why i said if anyone was serious about buying this pile you'd want to inspect it first.

cbrestorations

im sure the vin to this car is already on another car and he had a repop made...thats why he doesnt wanna give out the whole vin probably

Possibility that the dash pad/VIN was blown out or missing? either way this will most likely become a rebody (nothing wrong with that IMHO), and the seller is probably withholding the full VIN so it's not "black listed" as a possible rebody by those over zealous self annointed registry do-gooders trying to fight grease and grime in the hobby

If he has a matching title and a VIN, the RMV/DMV that issued it, then says it good to go, if the body numbers match, then it will become another "numbers matching" HEMI car "saved", I'm sure the "numbers matching" driveline will be "found" shortly after the car undergoes resurrection...uhh restoration

38 + 100 = 138

Fixed.

Lol I think the equation was right the first time. 38K for the car, 100k getting all the parts and forgeries that say it's all matching numbers one owner car (with restoration). Then he will get 250k at Barrett Jackson.  :scratchchin:

hemi-hampton

That depends if they actually fix that one or just find a mint 318 car to switch the #'s to? LEON.

Mike DC

Why stop at a mint 318 car?  They could buy a 318 car that has already been made into a Hemi clone.  That makes the changeover even easier.

Ugh.  The numbers matching hobby is so hopelessly awash in fraud.   :rotz:

Seems like rebodying has taken a back seat to restamping drivetrains as of late. Case in point the f9 hemi 69 charger thread.

Im glad ive never been a #'s match kinda guy.

Buying a mint restored 440 Cuda would make the switch even easier?

yes think it would  , they  already had  factory installed torque boxes ,   so upon close inspection your going  to see  factory style , sloppy crappy welds ) , ( well all the 440 cudas ive seen  from memory  :scratchchin:)   although i'm not  up on e bodies , so I await to be corrected   :2thumbs: :popcrn:

It does seem so. ::)  The cool part of having a -real deal- from the past has become a mine field of -maybe- cars.  :slap:

The fraud side of the hobby is (maybe) making nickles. And by doing so are causing stress and reduced interest for those that are enjoying history and life. :eek2:
