Started out a great weekend drove the charger all day sat. Come sun drove to my inlaws for easter 100 miles away it was great. On the way it all hit the crapper oil preasure dropped engine stalled. Tried to starte it but it was fried. After waiting for AAA and about 4 hours later finally got the car dropped off at a friends at 2:30 am. Now I need a rebuild any suggestion on what to use for a nice street/cruiser when rebuild. Its a 440 I never rebuilt an engine  before but my friend has and is willing to help. Can anybody suggest a good choice for pistons and maybe cam, I guess. I drive the car so dont want to go crazy with it. Thanks in advance Dom

get a fuel injected 360 out of a newer Dodge and save gas! its $2.90 a gallon around here already!

Sounds pretty inconvienant,..   :-\ sucks when they die,,,  :'(

Well,.. the usual route is to rebuild it "30 over" (size) which is when they use a slightly larger piston which then make your 440 a 446 C.I.
I have six-pack parts in my original superbee 440 six-pack, incl. the cam and pistons but the six-pack motors are externally balanced.. so that's a wrinkle specific to these motors                 :yesnod:

But A mild cam and some headers and you wont belive the Avail torquel... there will be some interesting options discussed here i'm sure,.. if i were you I'd sit back and listen to the Guru...   ^-^  or is it Gurus Plural?..

                                                                                                            :drive:

I'm sure we are all really sorry she crapped out on you especially in public, that's allways a drag, were but also  happy everyone made it home in one healthy piece ..
.. So look at it this way,..  now you have an excuse to really open up the performance of your ride.. and we will help...   :yesnod:

Now that's entertainment!  :icon_smile_approve:

hey
it sucks being left on the side of the road, i feel your ya. when rebuilding a motor i always try to go with the least boring as possible "30 over is cool but if you can go 10 over and be ok, you will have thicker walls and the car should run cooler than 30 over. plus if you have to rebuild it again in the future, there's still alot of meat left for more boring. terrible one

I would suggest first tearing it down to see what happened, what broke, and what can be saved, etc. Best of luck to you!

I AGREE WITH TERRIBLE ONE 440'S ARE USUALLY PRETTY GOOD ENGINES. DID IT TOTALLY LOCK UP OR DID IT LOOSE PRESSURE AND YOU STOPPED IT RIGHT THEN N THERE? IF SO I WOULD SAY START WITH THE OIL PUMP AND CHECK THE PICK UP TUBE SCREEN IF THE PICK UP TUBE IS GOOD GET A NEW PUMP BE SURE YOU PRIME THE ENGINE FIRST TILL YOU SEE OIL COMING OUT FROM UNDER THE VALVE COVERS. IF NOT CHECK YOUR POCKETS AND THEN SEE WHICH WAY YOU WANNA GO SOMETIMES YOU CAN SCORE A DECENT ENGINE OUT OF A BIGGER WHALE THAN A CHARGER LIKE A C BODY AND CRUISE ON IT TILL YOU RUN IT TO THE GROUND!
