Anyone have any good pics of how the trans cooler lines and nss wiring loom are routed? Any clips needed for the trans lines?

Also, the clip that holds the speedometer cable onto the frame rail, is it supposed to be black?

Lines are in place but I haven't secured them anywhere but on the trans itself. I'm not sure if I need to add clamps or anything.

I painted the speedometer cable clip black so that'll have to do.

What about the nss wiring? It's really long and I don't see anything to hold he wiring against the floor or firewall.

Trans lines run different from different vendors, and yes there should be a "C" clamp right before the "K" member. There's also a holder type thing on some Chargers I've seen that is attached to the lower starter bolt.

I had the pictures saved , exactly what  your looking for , but lost them when computer blew up a few years back , below is all I can come up with now , any help ?

the nss  harness is attached to the trans by clips ( green )  & routed down the trans as per picture  ,  I cant remember if the lower clip was A or B  location  :scratchchin: only two clips though

second picture trans cooler lines  bracket

speedometer cable clip ,  on mine , from memory ,  was dark bare steel with light rust speckling , maybe was dipped in a phosphate when new  :shruggy:

You guys rock!

Okay so I have the small C clip, it came with the lines but hadn't noticed until I double checked the packaging. I only have one though, not two as the YO site statezs you need. I don't have the other bracket so I'll order one. I was hoping there would be something there.   :2thumbs:

TT I think you're right, it probably was phosphate.  :yesnod:  I just hit it with some leftover VHR chassis paint and rubbed it a bit to get the gloss off. That'll work!
Man no wonder the trans wiring loom is so long! I couldn't figure out why it was, it always went straight down from the starter relay and bulkhead connector on mine and it was burned from touching the headers. I used the old loom to build a new one and made it the same length so you can imagine my surprise when I installed it only to find it's several feet too long!   :icon_smile_big:  I'll see if I can find some clips. If anyone has a pic of what they're supposed to look like, please post!

I looked around for that bracket, since I don't want to buy anything from YO, and all I find is a bracket like this which is supposedly also correct.  https://www.megapartsusa.com/proddetail.asp?prod=107%2DTLB146
Here's the YO bracket. https://www.yearone.com/Product/Chrysler-B-Body/SR190#prettyPhoto

So which one is right for a 69?

VegasCharger

Hello Dino, I just checked my 68 Charger which still has the original drivetrain intact. 383-4 auto. And my starter trans. line bracket is the same as the one in TT's second pic from reply#3. The rest of my trans. line run has one "S" clip located near the LH motor mount. And that's it. I'm pretty sure that it has not been messed with since day one from the factory.

Also I attached a pic of what I believe is one of the NSS wire harness clips from my OEM hardware pile and one of the "S" clips that I have an extra one of. The hole for the wire clip is big enough to accept a 3/8" thread dia. bolt.

Again mine is a 68 and they should be the same for 69 but I cannot confirm that.

Dino

Thanks Vegas!

So they used an S clip instead of a C clip. Either should probably work. I'm not going to try to install the C clip until the lines are secured at the bellhousing and the line are bolted onto the radiator.

The wiring loom clip is pretty special it seems. I wonder what else I can use.

found this picture , I had saved on disc , its not one of the ones I mentioned above that I lost ,
it gives you an idea what these clips look like  ,
both mine were missing , thanks to the second owner doing engine swap  :brickwall: ,  so I made my own .

BLK 68 R/T

My car has the same bracket as the one listed in YO for the line holder that mounts to the starter bolt. Whether or not it is actually original or not is up for debate as it came in all the parts for the car.

Dino

Thanks guys, I'll have to get the YO bracket then.

I found the trans clips.

#6015236 fits on the bellhousing and #6015707 fits on the tail shaft.  :2thumbs:

A trans doesn't get super hot right? Just wondering if I need to wrap the wires since they'll be touching the housing. I'll wrap them in the cloth tape for sure, but just wondering if it needs something extra.

yeah gets really hot , factor in  movement / vibration  & heat & cooling cycles ,   when I made mine  I wrapped the clips in insulating tape & put a layer of heat shrink over it too  , because I over think stuff  :image_294343: , i then slid a suitable size rubber tube / hose over the harness , at clip locations , so the rubber tube / hose  gets clamped with the clip , not the harness .....     did think of using nylon P clips  , but never found any to take that size bolt  :shruggy:

Dino

Good idea. I'll put some rubber hose inside the clips.   :2thumbs:

If I had known that the trans wiring was supposed to run on top of the trans then I would'v had the clips and wiring in place BEFORE installing the damn thing.

The top bellhousing bolt is easy enough to get to but the top tailshaft bolt is another story. So while laying under the car I remembered there was some sort of clip on one of those bolts that I didn't know what it was. I just left it on there so I checked the passenger side top bolt and there it is! The rubberized stuff is gone but the metal part is all there so now I have something to run the wiring through without having to try to get to the bolt.   :2thumbs:

I ordered the clip for the bellhousing bolt so the wiring will be where it needs to be before long.

I haven't done a whole lot to the car in my short break between semesters, but at least I'm that much closer to getting it done.

The one from megaparts is the style on my 71 if that helps solve the mystery.

That clears it up. I wonder why they changed the clip when the trans and lines remained the same?

A very special thanks to BLK 68 R/T for sending me his old trans cooler lines bracket.   I just bolted it in place, added the little C clamp further up the lines and voila! Rock solid!   :2thumbs:

I wonder why they state that both parts fit 66-71. I'm sure they WILL fit but not exactly correct. I'm sure they sell more if they state that they fit more models. Makes it tough to get correct parts w/o asking a ton of questions and waiting for replies all the time.
Now on to finding a correct power booster check valve for a '71...

I'm sure either bracket would fit, but it's nice to have that one that belongs there.  :yesnod:

Every time I think I know these cars, something else turns up that has me asking questions. But it is part of the fun!

What happened to your check valve?
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

71 SE3834V

Booster is not holding vacuum with the engine off. Check valve is passing air. When I shut the engine off you can hear it hissing and the pedal is rock hard instead of that one easy push of the pedal you usually get. Lately when I push the pedal with engine running I get a loud "whoosh" and the pedal seems low. Low pedal is probably just the rear brakes need adjusting (I'm hoping the new MC is not bad) and I'm hoping the "whoosh" is my imagination and not a bad booster.
I seem to be having a run of bad luck with my vehicles. Just got through dealing with a brake issue on the Dakota and before that got squared away a front brake on my Ram locked up. A brake hose failed internally on my 7 y.o.  42,000 mi HD 2500. Oh yeah, and while working on that I discovered my upper ball joints are bad! :RantExplode: Just got through replacing the inner tie rod and end. It's been a full time job trying to keep up.
