Im going to be swapping my 318 out for a 360 this winter. Recently my 318 been going though some oil and my son has noticed some faint blue smoke when i get on it and he's behind me. I have rebuilt the trani(904) and the rear(8 1/4)  over the last couple of years so i want to keep it a small block because of those. I'm getting a new 360 motor with a mild cam and swapping over my intake and carb. I know i will need a different oil pan and balancer anything else i should be a where of that i haven't thought of?

Ever consider a 5.7 hemi swap instead?

If I had a small block car I wouldn't hesitate to go that route.

But a 360 swap should be a breeze. All the accessory components should bolt right up. (If I recall correctly.) It should be a breeze.

I believe a 360 is cheaper.. that one thing

Ever thing will bolt up to it. But the ports on the 318 are smaller.i looked the 360 out of a 2002 and was saprized that the block for the most part was the same as the old blocks. Now I don't know if you can get away with put an old intake on a newer 360.
i am a fair person and up frount person and try to help if i can. i love my mopars thats. all i ever owned first car was my 69 charger at the age of 15.

I believe 360's are externally balanced and 318's are internally. The 360 should use a weight on the torque converter.

This is what I have, http://www.scramspeed.com/products/pro-products-crosswind-mopar-intake-la-magnum-satin.html originally going to put it on my 318 but got a good deal on a 5.9 and rh46 tranny with brainbox. I am going to try to use EFI.

I believe the drivers side motor mount is different also.

Why? Is the 5.7 kit that easy?

Not particularly, but it is a lot easier with the small block in terms of the car being prepared for it. You can keep your 904 trans, and K frame for starters.

But I'm rusty on my hemi swap knowledge so I don't want to put wrong info out there.

I'd swap my 440 for a 5.7 in a heartbeat if my car wasn't originally a 440.

The engine is a 72 so its an older 360 that's been remaned. I was wondering about the toque converter if that is different and had heard something about the motor mount. I know the oil pan is different and the balancer is different because of the difference in how they are balanced.

Correct, the block ears are located differently.

340's and 360's share the same mounting ears.

273's and 318's share the same mounting ears.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

left side motor mount bracket is a little different, cheapest way is use a small stack of washers and longer bolt.
you will need a 360 converter or weighted flex plate, or add weights to 318 'verter.

I got my 360 ill be going though it and changing the cam was told it has 30,000 on it and be putting it in the spring i have a question will this pan work with my 69 charger or will i need to change it? i have read both but it looks like it will work.

Pan should work fine, you'll love the 360!

With almost double the power of a 318, I wouldn't trust a 904 behind a 5.7 unless it was significantly built up!

The new Hemi swap is tempting in so many ways....Even running one with an old school carburetor is capable of mid 20s mpg and 375 HP.

Like the previous poster said...just space the motor mount with some washers. As to the converter...B&M sells a weighted flexplate but its expensive. There is a simple bolt on weight plate available thru the Holley website that bolts with the stock flexplate to the crank flange....something like $28.
