Eastwood high temp exhaust paint

I plan on painting my hp manifolds tomorrow with Eastwood high temp paint. I'm going to brush it on. The instructions say to let it dry overnight before bolting them on, and then runing the engine for at least 20 minutes to cure the paint. Well that part isn't going to work as I can't fire up the engine nor will it fire in many months to come.

So what's the alternative? Just bolt them on and forget about it? Stick a torch in the manifold to get them hot?

Wonder if they would fit in a propane grill?  Unfortunately, I don't know about the fumes or temperatures needed.  If it gives information about temperature, you might see if a grill could get hot enough.
Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."? 

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us. 

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

That's how I cooked the Hi temp paint on my brake drums.  Stinks the house up so make sure she'll be gone a while.   Never ever tell anybody!!! :icon_smile_wink:

That's how I've done it; hang the manifold from the rafters and direct the rosebud flame up into the outlet.

Divorce is not something I'd like to go through so the oven's out.   :lol:
Unfortunately the rosebud flame is not an option either, I don't have an OA setup. The best I can do right now is block of the ports on top with a metal plate and hit the manifold with mapp from below. I don't think it'll be sufficient but it'll have to do. I'll bolt them on the engine in a few days and just let them sit until the engine's ready to be fired up.

i painted the manifolds today, nice and purdy gray. Hope it holds up! At least they'll be easy to touch up with the brush on paint. It made sure there was only clean metal and I degreased the hell out of them.

No I don't have anything here that we don't use for food, and this paint supposedly will let off some nasty toxic fumes upon heating so i don't even want to do this close to my house.

 I may have got an old batch but I do mine about every two years. My son had his done in epoxy and they are new still but they look great. :Twocents:

I'm pretty sure this stuff isn't going to last forever and that's why I bought the brush on paint so it's easy to touch up. I don't mind repainting them every few years as long as I can do so while they're installed.

Just to add to this subject - go hit some garage sales. I picked up a used stove/oven for $20 and have it in my shop for just this kind of paint curing. It's a nice olive color and 2 of the burners on top do not work, but the oven does just fine and wife has no worries of anything getting snuck into her oven in the house!

I painted my manifolds with por15 exhaust manifold paint think its the same as the eastwood stuff. Did not start car for 3 months it did just fine. I do have to do some touch up every year because of very light rust coming through. That is always a spring time project!

I used Eastwood, followed directions and brushed it on, it's been years (8ish) they still look new, no rust....I did put on multiple coats
