I have the  basic  one bag  pressure sand blaster . Is there any reason I can't use it for soda blasting ? I would imagine it would need an air pressure regulator and a smaller tip..

I found a DIY solution somewhere using a Harbor Freight air blow gun and a length of tube. I just stick it straight in the bag of soda. I also have a pressure blaster but am too lazy to clean all the real blast media out of it...

Make sure you neutralize the soda on the metal when you're done.

So that said you could use a siphon feed blaster and do the same thing ??

I'd say so.

I bought 50 pound bags of soda at Harbor Freight for cheap (the one link mentions asian food stores or something). I found them on sale for less than half off and I had a 25% coupon.

I should mention that I have an 80 gallon compressor that capable of continuous running. But I have also never tried to soda blast anything large (just intakes and carb parts).

Yes same here, mine is a 5 hp. 80 gal. hooked up to my old 60 gal. so I have the storage. I should say I used my siphon feed blaster with regular baking soda :smilielol: and that is when I lived out in the sticks because it looked like an explosion in a cocaine factory, you could probably see the cloud from space. :smilielol: so that isn't practical. I am guessing the supplies soda is more granular.

From what I can tell, there's a huge difference between baking soda and the soda used for blasting. I have both in my garage so maybe I can do a comparison. I make a mess with everything though. I have glass beads in my cabinet right now. Well, supposedly *in* the cabinet but that stuff is so fine it makes it past all the seals and ends up settling in about a 10' area around the cabinet. I hit the floor once with "Black Beauty" in my pressure blaster and it shot under my screen all the way to the opposite end of the shop (about 45' away). I could have easily pushed everything outside but nooooooooo...
