Go ahead and make fun of me..but today is my 1971 Charger R/T's birthday!  It was made (According to the fender tag) on August 18, 1970.  46 years old today!

I know that I am just plain strange, but I think its fun to celebrate my car's birthday....anyone else that strange?

Here is a picture of her!

That is kind of interesting to me that many of you have cars built within the same general time period.  Guess they were building a lot with the same options, and paint combinations that were similar.  I was told that they retooled in July and started making cars around the first of August in 1970 in Lynch Road.  My car has a VIN of 102677, so I think it must have been made during the first couple weeks of the 1971 build season.  I am going to attach a picture of the fender tag.  Does anyone know how many cars were built (not just Chargers but all models produced) in a typical day at Lynch Road back then?  150 to 200 cars a day?  Just a guess....Wonder how many of those were Chargers?  Anyone know an accurate number?

Our cars are identically optioned on the fender tag except mine is a "C" code (Canadian sale) where yours is "U" code (U.S) sale. That and mine is GY3 Citron Yella  What's your car got for options? Do you have the buildsheet? I know Lynch Road was horrible for putting options on the fender tags from what I've been told. Here's how my buildsheet decoded......

the average 1971 Charger R/T has around $940.00 US worth of OPTIONS  :coolgleamA:

your car:
$66.40 - R11 - AM radio
$15.05 - R31 - rear seat speaker
116.25 - S77 - power steering
$45.35 - D91 Sure grip differential
$63.10 - U86 G60x15 RWL Polyglas Tires
$58.95 - W21 Rallye Wheels w/ Trim rings
$57.65 - C16 Console

$16.55 - J41 Hood Pins
$ 5.85 - J25 3 speed varible wipers
$31.45 - H31 Rear Defogger

looks like ~$801.80 in OPTIONS (US pricing) - has anyone seen CANADA OPTION pricing for these?

:2thumbs: it's amazing that it got $800+ without A/C (I'll assume the lack of A/C is the "norm" in CANADA)

6bblgt

"round" numbers
production at Lynch Rd (DETROIT, MI) for 1971 was ~100,000 cars, roughly 500 cars a day when up to "normal" production

August (new model production start-up) was slower than normal
week #1 (8/3-8/7+) <200 cars a day
week #2 (8/10-8/14+) ~200 cars a day
week #3 (8/17-8/21+) ~400 cars a day
etc.

an average day would have 15 Charger R/Ts "scheduled" (combined at the 3 plants that built them: Lynch Rd., St. Louis & Los Angeles)

no Radio or Power Steering? A04?

Woops....meant W23. Typed it wrong. Rallye wheels.

It has power steering and a Music Master radio so good chance it was coded for the A04 package too. It's also equipped with the rear speaker (R31). I just couldn't fully decode those options as some parts of the buildsheet were missing/torn. Same with the molding portions of the buildsheet.

So, if it's equipped with basically everything that's included in the A04 package, is there a good chance it would have the A04 package then?

the $204.75 1971 Charger A04 package included:
AM radio (R11)
power steering (S77)
LH chrome remote mirror (G33)
deluxe windshield wipers (J25)

the cost of the individual OPTIONs total: 66.40 + 116.25 + 16.25 + 5.85 = $204.75 (price was increased by difference in the value of the radio for the +FM +cassette radio upgrades)

the package was NOT discounted - it just made it easier for the employee to order the key "popular" OPTIONs in one GROUP (there may have been more dealer incentive $$ to order the group/package)

a Charger with the (4) A04 OPTIONs may or may not have been ordered w/A04

Does your buildsheet or fender tag show L37 for the Concealed headlights? Lynch Rd cars showed the options on the tag that required a change to the body over and above the standard body. As an example mine shows "26" for the 26" radiator because the rad support needs to be different from the 22" one. C16 for the console required an opening in the floor. H51 needed extra holes for the AC, etc.
My SE shows L37 but that option was standard on that model. The A09 was a package which included the inside hood release but as with the A04 package I suspect you had to pay for both options.
