AMD panel fitment? (car wrecked)

It's been a while since I've posted anything but I'm looking for some feedback on how the AMD panels are, quality wise from those that have actually installed them.  My 69 was in a wreck about a month ago and took out the whole right side. I'm pretty good with body and fender stuff but looking for what I'm getting into before I go ordering parts or go searching for original since that is what was in the car.  I won't be starting the repairs for another month or 2 so I have some time. Already got the insurance checked. The chassis is swayed right and rolled down so that needs to be addressed first.

I didn't install them myself and my car wasn't wreck damaged but I used AMD fenders and a roof on my car and was very happy with the result. The shop that did the body work said very little finagling was required to get them to line up right with the factory doors and hood. As I said, I didn't do the work myself but am very happy with the fitment...

Thanks for the reply.
At this point I am probably going to put 2 quarters on it (had to use skins the first time) in addition to the door, hood, and fender. I was never happy with having to use the skins

When I had my car done, AMD wasn't around and the skins were all I could find. Would have really rather had the full quarters but they weren't available. Sorry to see your car in that shape...

Not a great photo but this shows some of the body line gaps...

AMD is the best out there.

I used a lot of their stuff on a 66 chevelle I just finished and it was excellent. I just wanted to confirm the same for their Charger stuff

That was the case when I did mine in 2005, only half skins. I'm seriously leaning towards just putting 2 quarters on it so the end result is way better than what it was before.

The amd quarters are far better than skins, but they are not totally without flaws. They will need to have the body lines sharpened and the panels just aren't totally straight. Good parts though.

68 383 auto with a/c and power windows. Now 440 4 speed jj1 gold black interior .

I totally agree with above. If you go with the full quarters, make sure the shop fits the tail panel eyebrow things (??) before final welding.

To bad it's not like the show where the damage magically disappears.

I will be doing that part of I choose to go that route. I am pretty well experienced with sheet metal, body, and paint. The only thing I can't do is pull the frame. I already have someone lined up to do that when I'm ready to tear it apart.

I have installed a full OEM AMD quarter on my 69 Charger and it fit great, other than the typical quarter panel to rear valance corner fitment. Search this forum for the fix-it plan on that. IMO it was worth the extra money to fit a full quarter on the car vs a skin. be careful around the trunk hinge area, that part held me up for a little while. I did have to skim coat the entire panel and long block it to get it flat to suit my preference of what flat is. I searched this forum extensively for as much info as possible prior to the installation. Also autobody101.com forum is great for auto body basics if you plan to do the work yoursef. Best of luck you and I definitely will use AMD and AMD only in the future, very happy with the product.  :2thumbs:

Sorry about your car  :eek2:
There are few problems in life that cannot be solved with C-4.

Thanks.  Yeah I know about the corner area by the valence.  I fought that when I did this car the first time.  I just got done doing an extensive metal replacement job on a 66 Chevelle (everything except the roof skin).  The Charger is put together similarly to that so it shouldn't be that bad of a job.

Oh man,  this is my nightmare as I still drive mine occasionally on the street!  Sooooo sorry you have to go thru this!
When I restored mine, we had to replace both rear quarters and it went fairly smoothly. We did have to sharpen the body  lines a little but very minimal fitment issues. Even the gaps ended up being pretty even on both sides.
The original trunk lid and valence was used but everything else was replaced and it fit very well.
I'm sure, with your body skills, it would be a fairly simple job to make it right. Again, this type of accident just gives me the chills!

charger_fan_4ever

With a full quarter skin your going to have to rework the lower corner where the window trim fits as well as the deck panel gap. As mentioned the rear valance cap too. Your going to have to putty a full AMD 1/4 full length anyway, might end up being easier putting a half skin on. At least no messing with rear window channel corner, deck panel. Fit at the door was pretty good.

My passengers full 1/4 took 30 hours of bodywork to get it on paint. The side marker hole(1970) had to be cut and shrinked as the side marker hole was crooked and not right size. Body lines were a joke and full panel was wavey.

I had great results with my AMD experiences.  Were they perfect?  No.  They look phenomenal, fit was great even if it did require a few tweaks here and there.  You can see my experience here around page 38:  http://www.1970chargerregistry.com/mboard/index.php?topic=119.555

Factory parts were not produced by the gods of tin and they had their problems too.  With what I have done AMD is at least as good I would not have any problem using them again. :2thumbs:
