Hi All,

We dropped Jacob off at VMI this past weekend. He had to be at the Army ROTC building at 8am on Friday. He filled out lots of paperwork (typical Army) and took the oath that afternoon after passing his PT test. His scholarship requires him to maintain a 2.0 GPA each semester and pass a PT test each semester. On Saturday, he did all the VMI paperwork, we dropped his luggage off in his room and then there was a ceremony where he marched away in the afternoon. By now, his head has been shaved and he’s getting the “treatment” on the Rat line.  I’m sure he’ll do fine. Obviously, we are very very proud of him. He is a very driven and motivated young man.

Below is a link to more pics and videos if you want to see some of the activities.

I would like to add that seeing the new cadets at VMI was very inspiring. I wish that the achievement of high standards of education and conduct of the students who attend VMI and similar schools weren’t the exception, but rather the norm for our young people. Lord knows we need it.

If anyone has a relative considering going to a school like VMI, I’d be happy to talk to them about the process or answer any questions I can.

This year’s VMI Cadet stats:

   At 506 cadets, the class is the third largest entering class.
   The class includes 60 women and 95 recruited NCAA athletes.
   Fifty-eight percent are from Virginia and 42 percent from out of state, including four foreign countries.
   Sixty percent are majoring in math, science, or engineering, and 40 percent in the liberal arts.

congrats.  I know Lexington and VMI.  Wish him success  :2thumbs:

My son is off tomorrow (to start at umd).
Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....
