Compared to the characters from the 1930s-1960s, yeah, Deadpool was little known character and a risk for the studio.

"Executives at Fox — which had picked up at the project after earlier attempts to make it at Artisan Entertainment and New Line had stalled — balked at Deadpool's relative obscurity

Yeah but Fox executives are retarded. Deadpool comics are on average the fifth best selling comic book every month for Marvel.

I'm glad they pulled it off myself (deadpool)!!! I watched it twice in the theater and i'm not sure how many time's here at home. The humor and action work for me and all the pop culture reference's were familiar. The freeway scene is one of my favorite if not my favorite action scene ever!! HAVE YOU SEEN THIS MAN!!??? LOL The best!!!  :smilielol:

They're all retarded when it comes to risking millions of dollars. That's why it seems 50% of what studios greenlight is recycled garbage that they believe is a sure money-maker. At least they did it though, right? I would say they were all morons myself but at least they weren't stupid enough to totally scuttle it.

As frustrating as it is to viewers, the remake/sequel/etc trend has been working.

It doesn't make hits out of bombs.  But it usually does reduce how far the bombs fall.  What other gimmick has a track record so consistent & easy to use?
