Hi guys, does anyone have both a small block z bar and a big block z bar for a 73 b body? I have a 440 with a 10.5" clutch and bell, but I don't have the right Z bar. I know that they're both off set on the bell side, and I think the only difference is how far the bell side lever is welded from the end of the tube (big block one being closer to the bell, as it has the shorter fork). I just want to see a comparison photo if possible. Brewers has both, but the price is straight gouging, especially for us northerners. Please let me know if you've got anything laying around, would be happy to buy used!

I can help with the pic, I have a few lying around at the moment (BB and SB). I'll take a picture tomorrow and post it up in the evening if I don't forget.

Sorry, I wasn't able to get the picture today. I'll have to grab it Saturday. All of them are pretty much spoken for (belong to cars in my collection) but I may have one I could part with. I will let you know.

So I put a SB and BB Z bar side by side, or so I thought. All measurements are the same. I couldn't find a difference with a tape measure between the two in length, or arm position, markings, etc. The only slight difference I see is in the bend of the lower arm (bellhousing side) but that could just be in the way they were welded as it's obvious these aren't precision parts. After doing this, I think it is possible my SB car had a BB z bar in it. The lower arm is about 3/4 inch from the end, but should be 1.25 inches??? I don't know how much help this will be anymore. I can't really account for the first 30+ years of these car's lives, and anything could have happened or been swapped out. It's quite possible the original Z bar in the small block car was swapped, but it worked just fine with the small block. As far as I know, the BB and SB forks are the same length (although they do have different part numbers).

I didn't see that you had done this until now! thank you very kindly for going to all this trouble. I ended up buying a big block z-bar for the 73 direct from Brewers, along with all new linkage, ball studs etc. I decided that even if I could make something fit from another source, why give myself the headache? Thanks again for this.

No problem. I'm running a new one from Brewers in my 440 4 speed car as well. Had zero issues.
