588" motor in a street car...

I am having Todd at Marsh Performance build my motor for me. after reading about the motor he built for moparts member Tig, I knew I wanted him to build mine. It specs:

588 ci
indy aluminum block
indy 572-13 heads 410-420 cfm
diamond gas port pistons 4.5" bore 13.5-1 cr
callies 4.625 crank
cam motion solid roller 282/290@.050 .800/.751
indy 3x intake
1150 dominator
isky xmax bushed lifters
jesel 1.7 rocker arms
oliver rods 7.100"

this is going in my 68 formula S fastback cuda. it is a 4 speed car, with a 3.73 moser dana 60. it also has a hemi denny front coil over front end.im hoping for about 3200 pounds. this is a street car only.

anybody want to guess the hp and tq for motor? I'm hoping for 900hp and 800 tq. Todd will dyno it, so I will know what it makes, and will post the results. I should have it very soon!

Our super gas 12.5:1 572 with out of the box indy 440-1's and similar cam made 820 conservativly on the dyno if that gives you some kind of baseline.

The 572s blow the 440-1s out of the water. 800 lift plus 1.7s, with 13:1 and those heads... im going with 950/900. Be prepared to be replacing valve springs on a regular basis. Whats the rear suspension on the car? A 4 speed with that much motor is going to be insane. Videos will be required. Lol. For that matter, what transmission?  An 833 will not handle that.

Challenger340

Lots of Motor, Lots of Cam, Lots of Head, V/Spring and Lift = can be potentially LOTS of continuity and maintenance on the Street ? (For the UN-Schooled anyways)

But I am sure you are already well versed in care and upkeep therein for best results... so good to go  :2thumbs:

As described can blow right thru 900 hp.

hey Joe.  I already replace valve springs on the other motors, almost as often as changing the oil :'(. this one will be no different. I keep sets of  springs on my shelf. I can almost change them in my sleep. the rear is a moser dana 60 with HD leaf springs. I'm hoping to blow the tires off before I hurt the trans. I have been lucky with the other cars, so far. this car should be a lot lighter than the others too. it is an 833.

Todd puts out some nice stuff....no doubt about it ! Based on the headflow and static compression with the big cam it's definitely a big power build.

I'm really interested to see how the ported 337 stacks up against the 440 3X Indy piece. Are you going to have the (337) plenum modified for a dominator carb ?  :scope:

Very cool car.....my 2nd favorite after the 68-70 Charger  :icon_smile_cool:

Just think, yours will be making more power than the typical SS/AH Cuda/Dart and we know how fast those are !

Hey Ron. We will be dynoing both manifolds. I am having the 337 ported. It will be the same guy that ported Bobbys [Streetwize] on moparts. He has a thread with pics. I haven't thought about making it a dominator flange. I will look into it thou. :yesnod:

My '67 GTX with 833 4-speed is holding up just fine (so far) behind my FHO 572 cross-ram hemi with 813 hp/ 790 tq.  Sounds like a fun project !

Update the heads are done. They tried something a little different. They kept the port a little smaller, to help with it being a street car ;). Still very good flow for that CC port. When he really opens them up, he said he gets about 415-420 cfm. I am also having him port the hell out of a mopar 337 manifold. I will be dynoing both the 337 and a 440-3x.  Larry Smith is the head porter. He does a lot of nascar stuff.

This is a note from my engine builder:
Cool with me. Progress being made. Heads done and assembled. Larry tried something a little different on your head porting. We got them up to 405 on the intakes. Oh yeah the different part, they are only about 335cc runners. That is 50cc smaller than the Indy CNC 385 and virtually the same flow..........it being a street motor and all.......LOL!

Sounds insane fast. 13.5 compression seems astronomical for a street engine though!

That's very impressive flow from such a relatively small runner ! I don't think I've seen a BB wedge head flow that well at 335cc or anything remotely close to that size.

I can only imagine the throttle response this beast is going to have.....insane !

the motor was dynoed today. everything went well. the results:
with an indy 3x and dominator 961hp@6400 903 hp@5500 862tq@5500
with a ported mopar 337 and 850 4150 carb 855hp@6100 791tq@5500

should be a lot of fun in my "street car"!!

a big thank you to Todd Marsh!!!!

thanks Ron. it will still be a little while. I have to figure out the motor plate deal, as the indy block does not have any mounts. wish I would have known this before I ordered my hemi denny coil over kit. I am also going to put a 4 point roll bar in it. I hope the car will be about 3300#
