68 Hemi Charger missing vin tag

That thing has been for sale for quite awhile. It was on Craigslist in New Jersey about 6-8 months ago for 25K IIRC. I'm really quite surprised he has a title for it.

 i'm sure there was a thread on this car , a while back  ,   the pictures then ,  were when was it sitting in a junk yard with a  R or RB wedge motor fitted 
story went  , it was stolen back in the day & the hemi motor was removed etc ..

But to transfer to another state may be another matter.  Washington State Police would inspect and not seeing a dash VIN would immediately issue a rebuild title and VIN. 

Before I knew any better I bought a 1972 'Cuda that had the VIN held on with standard pop-rivets  Otherwise the car was correct and body numbers matched.  I had bought it in Oregon so WSP needed to inspect it.  They inspected it, pried off the VIN tag, riveted a new state-issued 'rebuilt' VIN in the door jamb.  They close you out of the garage while inspecting so I didn't even know what they did until it came back out.  Have a nice day and go title it in WA as a rebuilt car.  Obviously knowing better I would have gotten the correct rivets in place between buying and inspection.

So I'm sure that importing this Hemi car to Washington would be a disaster.

It's definitely not a hemi body.  That's one thing wrong.

How many car grifters have patience?

Long con:  take a basket case B body.  Weld in a #'s matching cores support and trunk gutter, install dash.   Use spot welder, factory techniques.  Return car to the elements for a year or two.  Sell car on flea bay for big money.

so, body numbers B8X120608 do NOT equate to XS29J8B120608

He OBTAINED a transferable registration or title with the wrong VIN  

the only evidence in the pictures as to the subject car being a "real" HEMI car is the freshly installed "K"-frame & the HEMI power brake set-up, both bolt on parts (it probably WAS a HEMI car)

he does NOT show pics of any of the HEMI body reinforcements rusted or not

Yes.  I can only imagine the reaction I'd get here in Nevada trying to title that car with no vin on the dash.

Not necessarily, I live in western WA and I sold my 73 Cuda, no fender tag, had a 72 Challenger dash pad with the challenger tag, door sticker in place which matched the body numbers which matched the title. He in turn was trying to sell it and had it inspected by WSP. They ran the numbers found the Cuda legit and left the Challenger tag in place and applied the original Cuda numbers to a new tag and placed it on the cowl next to the stamped numbers. He had absolutely no trouble selling it.

Great detective work! 

Me having a 68 Charger this is how the numbers are represented (also mentioned above).

Fender tag = SO(Sales Order) number(6 digits).
SO # also found on rad support and trunk gutter but not on VIN plate.
On rad support and trunk gutter there's 3 characters prior to the SO #. Ass. plant, model year and car line.

This example B8Xxxxxxx
B = Hamtramck
8 = 1968
X = Charger

So this clown types in the SO# of his 68 Charger fender tag/body in the eBay VIN field as to pass it off as the actual VIN of the car. So it looks like it's "numbers matching" to the uneducated eye. 

I wonder if he/she realizes it and hopes that a potential buyer does not or just doesn't know how 1968 numbers are used.
