Proud new owner of a 68 charger

After a couple of 68 chargers that I had seen which weren't in good condition or was priced at market price from what I have gathered here in the forums I found a great looking 68 charger in Illinois through a member here Mike (1970moparmann) in this forum that was listed for sale.

Mike was more than helpful with getting me in touch with the owner Lee and passing me the info about the car. I had contacted Lee and after discussing the car description and sending me pictures of the car I was interested in the car due to its color, engine and that it seemed a straight bodied car with very minimal surface rust and also Lee seemed to be an honest straight guy over the phone. However after the recent incident with Southern Motors I took the pictures with a grain of salt and then ordered an inspection. Lee was more than welcome to the idea and he also mentioned that he has a lift that is willing to put the car up so the inspector could have a better look and inspect the underbody of the car so I can have a better inspection of the car.

During that time I contacted Leon, (hemi-hampton) (which was more than helpful and shared his advise regarding the previous charger I was looking at and was willing to go and see the car for my self as if I may recall was 30 mile trip to him but I had already had the inspection on the way) to have his input on the car and told me that it looked way better than the previous one although not a true R/T but none the less a good looking car and to also get someone to inspected and maybe the price is a bit high and try to negotiate it down.

So the car got inspected a couple of days back and I received the report yesterday. It was what Lee had mentioned exactly and no surprises and based on the inspection grading system it was a highest of all the chargers I had inspected earlier especially the last one. Yes its not a concours level car and needs a bit of work but again its a 40 something year old car. So I just got off the phone with a company I usually deal with for any car purchases in the USA and to buy the car on my behalf and told the same to Lee as well. Super great seller and I'm very glad that I had to deal with a respected gentleman like Lee.

So now I could say I'm a proud 68 charger owner finally which has been a long time coming and more proud to be a member here in this forum that had helped me from losing loads of money and also finding my 68 charger. Big thank you to both Mike and Leon as well.

A brief about the car from the ad; 1968 Charger XP29G8B. NOT AN R/T. Owned car for over 20 years. 440 recently freshened with a hydraulic roller cam, headers, Holley 750 Vacuum secondary carb. Fresh trans rebuild with A and A valvebody. Black bucket seats with console. nice dash pad. power steering, manual disc brakes, 3.54 Dana 60. New tires on Cragar Street Stars. Original color LL1. Medium Dark Turquoise Metallic. Older repaint before I bought it. Paint is not perfect looks like a 20 year plus repaint. Engine compartment repainted. Very very little rust. No quarter,frame or floor rust. One pin hole around rear window. Great running car. Not a perfect show car. We have done a lot to this car in the last 20 some years we have owned it but have not painted it....new seat covers and seat foam, new headliner, new vinyl top, carpet, added rear stripe, new windshield.

Now the wait begins (usually 45-60 days) so I can enjoy driving my charger.

FYI: "seafoam turquoise metallic" is a Plymouth name for Q5 a different 1969 color

Lee the previous owner had ordered a Griffin aluminium radiator and a Flowcooler water pump as he researched how temps rise in our part of the world ( today highest temp was 56C which is 133F !!) as a gesture from him. Also there was a slight transmission leak that he had notified me with prior to inspection and told if I go through with the purchase he will replace it which he already has. I can't thank him enough and glad that I purchased a car from him.
