More Galen BS and confusion. This was not the first production car down the assembly line. Galen was saying that it was the lowest VIN of the 225 he had on file. I have 22 earlier than that.

Still a gorgeous car. :drool5:

Nice car, but the undercoating inside the quarters and the filled in seams on the lower valance are concerning, especially when the seller says this....

"I believe the car has been repainted, but it is the original color B5 Blue."

No reserve auction no less.  Should be interesting to see how the auction ends.

charger_fan_4ever

Not sure how rare the combo is. I have a twin to it and there is another member 70rt that also has same car.

Mytur Binsdirti

Some of the interior panels need a bit of help.

charger_fan_4ever

Interesting it has a white interior with blk seatbelts. Mine was white interior but blue belts. The rest of the color combo the same between both.

Mytur Binsdirti

Black rugs = black belts, blue rug = blue belts?     :shruggy:

I'm interested in the car and I talked with the seller and he is insisting that it's all original paint, but that rear valance seam is a dead giveaway that it isn't. He texted me a bunch of pictures and I see a bolt in front of the battery tray that should be bare, but it's painted blue along with an insulation nail and the nut that fastens to the stud on the master cylinder backing plate. It's clear that (at least) the exterior and engine compartment have been repainted. I'm almost certain that the rear quarters (or parts of them) have been replaced and possibly the rear valance. He is insisting that the car is 100% original, including the paint and that the engine hasn't been out of the car, but things just don't add up. Either he is a BS artist or he's completely ignorant.

It's still a very nice car, but the owner's answers to questions and lack of detailed pictures in the ad and what I have requested is very concerning to me.

A nice car yes, but definitely not 100% correct as stated by the seller in the ad! I see at least a dozen things that are not factory correct.

I wish people would speak the truth when selling a car.

That engine and engine compartment are too nice to be unrestored.

We see many terms used to describe the conditions of cars.

"Barn find" and "survivor" are two terms that come to mind that should be easy to grasp when we use the --meaning-- of words as a reference. But those terms are loose to say the least.

However the term "unrestored" seems like a tough one to construe. -- Yet it is comming to be used as a normal part of conversation to describe something that does not match the term. :slap:

Just who are the fools in a world where. --When one says something over and over it becomes true. :nana:-----Mantra is a word that has meaning (for now ) that fits here as an example of how the language can get diluted and become unreliable. :Twocents:

Don,

Do you see any issues with the fender tag compared to the broadcast sheet?
Seeking information on '69 St. Louis plant VINs, SPDs and VONs. Buld sheets and tag pictures appreciated. Over 3,000 on file thanks to people like you.

3 pet peeves of mine is when the core support & Caster Camber access plate & caster camber adjusting bolts are painted body color. His Caster Bolts are painted body color, big red flag engine comp has been repainted. Can't see his caster access plates good enough but would not be surprised if they are painted also. LEON.

typos happen, but what's with the "22" on the bottom line of the b'cast sheet?

bid to 50k!!!!

maybe i should sand down the y1 paint on the quarter panel of mine and consider going back b5 lol

Mytur Binsdirti

He told me over the phone that he wants 85 large for it. Not way in hell it's worth that with bottoms of quarters that look like this...

And he claims that it's original paint.    ::)

Compare that to my original sheet metal car...

85k large lol wants c500 money.

daveco

All issues aside, that is an awesome looking car!
R/Tree

Mytur Binsdirti

True, which is why I was interested in it. His ad does state that it might have been repainted and I was told over the phone by the seller that it was original paint and the engine had never been out. Since the engine compartment was painted, I doubt very strongly that the engine has never been out. When I requested some pictures of the bottoms of the quarters and rockers, he said that he would see what he could do, but he didn't have a lift, however, one of the pictures I received clearly showed the car up on a lift.

With all the visible issues that can be seen in the pictures in his ad and the ones he sent me,  along with the mistruths I was told, along with him being a flipper, I wouldn't waste the time and air fare to check it out. I have a feeling that whoever does go to look at it will be sorely disappointed if they thought they were looking at an unrestored car.

I wish my car was color coded like your 70 r/t was then id have considered keeping it the original color lol. B5 duon't know why just can't do it. There is a nice gomango 4 speed 70 r/t on fleabay now too. Seen it before on there too. didn't look at it too closely.

It's at just over 65K with one day left.----Didn't think it would go that high. :shruggy:

Mytur Binsdirti

It's go to be shill bidding. The seller didn't put a reserve on it, he's got to get the bidding up to a point where no real buyer would buy it otherwise it would really sell for around 45K.

Look at the bid history; this i***v bidder has been driving up the price from where it was stalled at 41K in big increments.

That may very well be, but when I talked to the seller, he specifically told me that he didn't have any pictures of the undercarriage and 10 minutes later, I get a picture of a rocker showing it to be on a 4-post lift. Add to that, his insistence that the car is all original paint (which it clearly isn't), and that he bought it to flip, can you blame a person for being skeptical?

ws23rt

I didn't look at the bid list when I saw the current bid. ::)

Wow a jump of around 24K from two bidders with little to no ebay history.  :scratchchin:

I guess this car will be back another day for us to chat about. -- And it is building/adding to it's history in this -selling-? process. :slap:

I am interested in buying a 68 or 70 R/T with factory a/c. This car came up and investigated it. However, the owner turned me off with his less than truthful responses, lack of providing good quality detailed pictures and finally, his 85 large price tag.

Mytur Binsdirti

Well, the auction jumped another 5 grand at the last 10 seconds to $65,100.00. why do I have a feeling that this car will be for sale again soon.

ws23rt

So the car sold for a paltry 65.3K-- :icon_smile_wink:

I Agree that somrthing will go wrong with the sale and it will be back. :slap:
