my friends ask me why I dont go to many car shows.  today is a perfect example. the winner of best car was the plainest looking green 67 vette that showed up 45 minutes before awards and never even opened his hood.  there was a red 65 that was beautiful and got nothing.

of course I got people's choice, but thats what I usually get.

I know what you mean!!! I hardly ever go to any car show's with my charger. One reason is I would have to take off of work the day before the show just to get the car somewhat clean. My car is a weekend driver so it gets dusty and road grime on it on a regular basis. As hot as it has been here lately cleaning the car has been put on hold. Sadly I just wipe it down and hit the road lately. I just don't get anything out of parking the car and sitting with it out in the hot sun all day long. I rather be riding than sitting and yes the buddy's of whoever is putting on the car show will always win no matter how long they were there. Even if a world of wheels car showed up the buddy's car will still win. It's just the way of it so I almost never go to car shows. I do like the cruise in's tho, just guy's parking there car's and getting a bite to eat and hanging out a bit in the evening's and heading back home. No judging just guy's hanging out with their car's.....

we have a cruise in a few miles away from my house at a BBQ place.  It is free, but they have about 6 sponsors,  so they give away some pretty nice door prizes, I'll probably go back there

I like to go to shows, but I don't like to stay all day.  I used to go to only Mopar shows years ago and I really got turned off when the same people would get a trophy, and arguments that would start because of it.

I like to get to a show early, and I usually leave by 1.
My name is Mike and I'm a Moparholic!

when we got my car back together, I thought i would go to a lot.  started going won a few people's choice's.  but I got turned off at a show a year ago with 100 cars.  there is a guy in town with a $100-$130K 57 chevy who normally WINS everything he goes to.

long story short, he and I didnt place in the top 30.  and the cars that did were crap.  I quit after that.  I agree with the comment earlier that I enjoy driving it more than sitting at a show.
just sunday on the way to this show I was talking about, 10 minutes from my house, I had people taking selfies with it at the gas station and 1/2 dozen waving and blowing their horns

I used to do them a lot. They wore on me.

I never went to compete. It was all about connecting with other car people. I made great local connections and even managed to buy some local hidden gems through the shows.

The earliest ones I did when the Charger was in "as found" condition. This may have been the best period. The only annoying people were the ones that persistently tried to buy the car.

Once it had new paint, you had guys in the same league nit pick the car. Talk smack about it and you behind your back. It was a real competition to many guys. Because I went with a GL, I not only opened myself up to scrutiny by those people, but then you get every guy that ever owned a General Lee matchbox car suddenly decide he is going to educate me with his superior knowledge of the cars (do you know how many times I had heard they never had door handles?). Lots of bald faced lies too. I cannot tell you how many relatives of the Dukes production crew were floating around the upper east coast.

One year I managed to win a peoples choice award. A friend of the car shows promoter threw a fit because his Camaro didn't win. That the General Lee shouldn't be eligible as "every kid is going to vote for it because it is easy to remember". He was red in the face angry. After 10 minutes of him ranting and raving they called me back as there was an "error" and I had to forfeit the trophy to loudmouth. I just got in my car, with the trophy, and left. That was my last show.

Me too, trophies (I have a few) are a PITA dust collectors. Last few shows I attended I penciled in "DISPLAY ONLY" on the entry card.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

I cruise, i dont show. Most local shows, the pres, vic pres and other members take 1st 2nd and 3rd place. Lol

Here ya go, now we're all winners.

I despise shows. There I said it.

All I want to do is drive the damn thing, I don't even like stopping to fill it up because you attract all sorts in those few minutes.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

:drive: I rather go for a long drive then go to a car show.

I love car shows but I also get impulsive. Sometimes I just want to pack up and leave, though some events require you to stay to a certain time. The Spring and Fall Fling in Van Nuys does this and it pisses me off. When I want to go, I don't like being held up.

We have one every night of the week. The only people that win anything prize wise or trophy wise are the older retired die hards that get there at like 2:30-3:00 before it even really begins & they all reserve the same spots & save them for there buddies. I work until at least 5 & usually don't stroll in until 6:00 or so. It's packed  & usually full by then. If someone is still saving a spot for their buddy with a chair blocking the spot. I will stop, get out move their chair & park their anyway. No one ever says a word. Guess they figure if I have enough balls to get out & move the chair I can have the spot.

I did win cruiser of the night once. I was parked way out in the back & they told me to bring my car up to the front near the DJ so everyone knew I won. I told them I was way in the back & I wasn't going all the way back there & moving my car only to probably loose the spot once I moved so I told them to give my trophy to one of the kids. They wouldn't even do that. They kept it for the next week.
