How can you ask a question and then have a thread locked?

An open thread to all:

NHCharger - how can you start a thread and then, because you disagree with the way the discussion went, ask to have the thread locked?
and for someone to make a final post, where you ask questions, before running to the moderator to have the thread locked - that is really sad.

Now this forum, I hope, is for an open discussion - if you do not like the way some opinions are tossed around then fine, but don't go chicken and start throwing questions from a distance but not allowing an avenue to hear the answers. If you had the thread locked but didn't make the final post, then I wouldn't be posting this thread, but you want the best of both worlds.

The scion sucks - in my opinon.
You should not start threads if you are afraid of other peoples viewpoints - in my opinion.

If you disagree, then respond, I trust that the moderators will be fair and allow open discussion on this one.

Typically a thread will get locked when there is utter discord, or one of several other $10 words I found on thesaurus.com such as: animosity, antagonism, antipathy, beef, bone, clash, clashing, collision, contention, difference, disaccord, discordance, discrepancy, disharmony, dispeace, dispute, dissension, dissent, dissidence, dissonance, disunion, disunity, division, enmity, flak, friction, fuss, hassle, hostility, incompatibility, incongruity, inharmony, mischief, opposition, polarization, rancor, rhubarb, row, ruckus, rupture, scene, spat, split, static, strife, variance and of course wrangling.

Hmmm. I didn't realize until now that rhubarb also means "A quarrel, fight, or heated discussion." I learned something today. I've always liked rhubarb pie.

Other things that will get a thread locked or a member banned from the site include multiple user names, nudity, copious amounts of profanity, religious topics, political topics, racism, and a bevy of other issues generally considered not politically correct and/or offensive to one or more of the members of this site. Does that answer your question?

I probably would have done the same if I were him. It started to get a little ugly towards the end which im sure he didnt anticipate and did the right thing.

It's easy: you ask a moderator and thread gets locked. Sometimes threads don't quite turn out the way the original poster expected and since they don't have the ability to delete the thread we'll usually oblige. If certain people weren't complete idiots we wouldn't be discussing it now would we?

In the future, one of the most annoying things you can do is start a new thread on the exact same subject as a thread that was just locked. It's even more annoying when you use the new thread to flame someone from the old one. The idea of locking a thread is to let the topic cool down - not because we haven't met the "new thread quota" for the month. I hope that's clear.
