I have a 1969 charger and want to install a 1970 pistol grip 4 speed shifter handle.  How does this handle install to the existing mechanism.  Thanks for any assistance you can give.

Originally they are just a press in with shims that hold it along with small tabs inside. Slide a feeler gauge down each side of the handle and pull it out. Common modification is to drill 2 holes and bolt it in.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe the shifter mechanism and linkage rods are different between '69 & '70 due to the much longer length of the pistol-grip handle.

Why is that important?  Your knuckles will know immediately when they hit the dash on a 2-3 power shift...

Yep. You need the correct 70 shifter "box" to go with the shifter handle.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.
