Sheet metal panels: three brands, one manufacturer

I needed to patch the section of the rocker panel that's hidden behind the quarter panel which has some very specific curves. So I decided to skip the AMD piece and look for a less expensive option to make the patch.

Anyway, the fit of this non-AMD piece is actually good imho. However, what I wanted to show (and it's been discussed before on the forum) is that there are fewer manufacturers vs companies that offer panels.

The picture shows three different part numbers on the same piece. The three numbers are the part #s for Goodmark, Sherman, and GoldenStar. In other words, three brands, one manufacturer. So, don't spend too much time comparing brands :)

Goodmark and Sherman have always been the same (I have never heard of GoldenStar). If they were halfway decent AMD wouldn't have been able to take almost all of the market share. ;) Some of the parts do fit OK but they didn't have full quarters and their skins were not good so that was one of the biggest pluses for AMD.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Agreed. Although I used these for patches, my quarters and fenders are AMD.

Golden Star was a wholesaler for the last 10-15 yrs most likely selling to Goodmark and Sherman and recently started re-selling through Jegs.
I talked with a guy there and he said ALL the non-American made aftermarkets come from the same place in China.

I would argue that statement. If you set a Sherman part next to a Goodmark part they are clearly the same. Set the same thing next to an AMD part and they are not. Even if they are stamped in the same building they aren't using the same tooling.

Troy ....possibly my bad I was thinking AMD was made in the US. It would be curious to
see if Golden Star matches up to an AMD part? OR Goodmark/Sherman....there is a definite cost difference.... almost 200.00 for my floor pan AMD vs. Golden Star.

Everything is from Taiwan but not everything is the same.

I remain bitter at Goodmark for the worthless crap they made before AMD forced them to improve.  The metal quality of their partial floorpans was getting scary in the late 1990s.  It's like the difference between Home Depot galvanized conduit steel tube vs legit steel tube from a metal wholesaler.
