Cold brew coffee

I'm trying cold brewed coffee. I got a deal on a rig for 15.00, it's a glass carafe with a screen cone ya fill with grounds. Fill the rig with water and it sits in the fridge 12-24 hours. The concentrate mixed with more water or whatever is heated in the micro. My first batch is pretty tasty, not as acidic as usual so I'm liking it. Kinda convenient to just get up and toss a cup in the micro instead of making a pot.
Anybody else using this method?  :scratchchin:

I've never heard of it.  Neat idea though.  :2thumbs:

Cold brew coffee has been around for quite awhile. The process basically soaks the beans in room temperature or cold water for about 12 hours. The process lowers the amount of caffeine, acid and oils that are typically released using hot water.  I used the process for awhile a few years ago but it is a little more time consuming, but does produce a better cup of coffee. Since I usually make my coffee in a 40 cup brewer it was hard for me to keep up with my intake using the cold brew process.  If you are not a volume coffee drinker (like myself), give the process a try as I think you will like the results.  The cold coffee can either be heated as is or if to strong water can be added to dilute the brew thus stretching out the brew.
You can buy already processed cold brew or make a simple brewer.  Just add water to course ground coffee in any container you want, let it soak for at least 12 hours (either at room temp or in the fridge) and then filter the coffee out via either a paper filter or even a device such as a french press. There a plenty of rigs you can buy also from cheap to quite elaborate.

Haven't tried that yet.  I went to using a french press after our Bunn died.  Also got one of those electric tea kettles. That I can set the water temperature I want. It actually heats the water very fast too.

I gave up coffee about a year ago but prior to that I was mostly drinking cold brewed coffee, and I'd tried probably every variation of hot brewing.  The lack of acidity was absolutely what converted me!  The only downside is you have to get used to planning ahead as the process takes a while, but I'd never go back to regularly drinking hot brewed coffee.

With cold-brewing, you do lose a bit of the 'fresh' flavor/aroma of a just-brewed cup of coffee.  For the times where I just need me a cup of hot coffee I have an Aeropress.  Hands-down the best cup of coffee I've ever made at home.

Been drinking a lot of that lately for "studying motivation". Definitely feel more of a kick than regular coffee.

Now, if you want a real jolt, try a "nitro" cold brew. I literally felt buzzed the first time I had it. Depending on where you live, Starbucks, Coffee Bean, or a "fancy" coffee shop may carry it. You can also buy it in a can or bottle at higer end super markets.
