Hello Folks, looking to find out more about these center sections that came from Harry Hyde's shop. I know they are detroit lockers with some pretty high gears. I assume this collection was for both super speedway and short track use. They all have an extra oil fitting drilled for fluid recirculation.  This of course can be plugged for street use.
If you can give me any knowledge on these parts or approximate value, that would be helpful.
Here are the details, best I can figure.

1 741 casting 2.94 Open
1 742 casting 5.12 w/Locker
1 742 casting 5.67 w/Locker
1 742 casting 5.50 Open
1 742 casting 5.50 w/Locker
1 (16345??) casting 5.30 w/Locker
I have a few other carriers, lockers, bits and pieces as well.

741= Small straight pinion gear

742= Large straight pinion gear

1634985= Early equivalent to 742

The 742's are desirable, especially with low gears and locker but surface rust detracts from the value as does obvious poor gear tooth surface condition. (can't see that well from pics)
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Hello John, Any idea what these may be worth?  Also who would use these gear ratios in the 5s?
Thanks

John_Kunkel

1/8 mile and some 1/4 mile drag racers would use the 5.XX gears. If the gears are in good condition you might get $400-500 for the lockers.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Dodge truck guys would be another possible set of buyers, they are great for off road rigs.
