and for good reason....Those 3 on the tree Chargers are far & few between.  Welcome to the site!

My 68 came with a 318 and a 3 on the tree.

Interesting questions that crossed my mind re: 3 on the tree...

1) What was the top speed one could reach with the 3-spd?

2)  If you wanted, could one build a performance spec 3-spd, and mate it to something really powerful?  Has it been done?

Just curious is all...  I've only ever driven one, and didn't get to go too nuts with it.
Every great legend has it's humble beginning.

Well everyone is entitled to their opinions and I value yours.   Many of the original big engines in Chargers were raced to death years ago.  My little old 318ci, 2bbl, 3 speed on the column isn't fast but it IS original to the car and still runs like a top.  To me the beauty of the car is that it has the original white naugahyde interior, the bench seat with the fold down arm rest, the original AM radio and carpets.  In essence, when I get in the car I am in 1969.

The 3-speed still has a 1:1 ratio in high gear, just like the 4 speeds do.  As far as top speed, that would depend on the engine, rear end and driver. At my age once I get over 100, I'm not sure what is shaking worse, me or the car.  :shruggy:

Is it a bench seat with arm rest or a bucket seat car with buddy seat? Big difference. I don't think I've ever seen a factory bench seat in a 69 Charger.

My '70 Charger was originally a 318 with 3 speed on the column.
