Unfortunately not a Mopar so hope this post don't get deleted or bans me? 1966 Mustang, stored in garage 30 years since 1986. original paint, original 80k miles, original motor & interior, 99% rust free South Carolina car. Only paid $1,500 for it. I keep thinking to myself, if this was a 1968-70 318 Charger in this shape I'd be paying more like $15,000 instead of $1,500. Repro parts are cheaper for these also. If I make money flipping this I'll use the money to help restore my 72 Charger. LEON.

It's also relatively easy to install a modern 5.0, and 5-speed with it as well.  Enjoy your project

Nice! A friend of mine had a 67 when we started college. It was rusty and leaked but it was fun when we were kids.

Be aware that the 65-66 coupes don't have a lot of value when finished either so don't dump a lot into it if your plan is to flip it. I've seen some really nice (almost "show quality") coupes that sold for below $10k. I could have picked up a 66 last year for about $6k.

As for cost of parts... it all depends on which Mustang you have! Most parts are easy to find and most of the sheet metal is relatively affordable. Ford even still has stock of a lot of the parts - although "NOS" parts for some things are on their 4th or 5th revision and look nothing like the originals. I have a 70 Mach1 with a 351 C and trying to find and original Shaker, rocker trim, and side mirrors is similar to finding Mopar parts (ie impossible to find and $$$).

They are built a lot like Mopars as far as the unibody goes. And the wheels are interchangeable.

I'd go repro, as a restored original will fetch you more than an NOS Charger Grille new in the box

I already have a real one but thanks! It was the first thing I got after buying the car (the original was MIA). That one won't fit mine any way as the base plates are different for nearly every combination of engine/heads/carb. The repros are fiberglass. The 351C also uses a unique power steering pump, intake, carb, and some accessory brackets.

It's true...  For the price of a fully restored 318 car, you could have a numbers matching SS 454 Chevelle, or a 69 Mustang Mach 1.

Ummm, no. I don't know about the Chevelle (and I'm too lazy to check) but you're not finding a 69 Mach 1 - except maybe a 351 2V auto - anywhere near the price of a 318 Charger. A base model fastback perhaps. My 70 (even in it's crappy condition) is valued at more than any of my Mopars except one. I was noticing the recent uptick in Mopar prices so I checked for 67-68 Mustang fastbacks and the prices have nearly doubled (even for base models) since I started looking.

Yes, the 69-70 base model fastbacks are still relatively cheap (especially compared to 67-68). I don't think the coupes or convertibles from those years have much collectible value at all.
