Over the years I have loved old American muscle cars. But when I found out my mothers first car was a 71 charger. I had to get one.

Now after years of working on her and paying people to work on her(active duty military away and had to pay to continue work) she is in the shop getting body and paint work done. She is almost ready for the road.

I love this site. So many awesome people and a lot of people have made friends here. I sit back and just laugh and smile about everyone's comments. Time to start my own and hope I get some love. Everyone loves chargers and it seems 69-70 are in the tips of the list. And I understand why. But my background made me find a bad ass 71 and I am happy with her. So everyone show pride and send me your 3rd gen charger pictures. Looking forward to seeing them.

Jason

I was looking over your before and after a last night on the paint section of the forums. Very nice work.

Jduv10007

I can't wait for the car to be painted. And by then I should be able to show you guys pictures. As of now I am in the middle of a military transfer and don't have a computer. (Hotel living until we get our stuff) I am so excited about this thread though. If anyone finds the old on we can add a link or bring it back.

My car was a stock 71 318 with a vinyl top all the way back. I have since just made her my own. I came in to possession of a superbee power train and decided to do a big block conversion. Didn't know what I was getting myself into. But now the car is almost done all 7 years later. She is 100% mechanically sound. Needs a cluster wiring job for the electrics side. Other then that she is getting her new skin and paint. I just got orders to be away from her for another 3 years and I can't wait till the day I come home and my now 2 year old and I can go to a car show or on a Sunday night cruise.

Not really photoshopped. Took this picture with my samsung phone and its was a stormy day. Just removed the shadows and used an HDR filter.

Enhanced or not it's a real picture.  Wink

Here is the Original

Those aren't the real factory style. They look like the aluminum style....... But they DO look cool!

Possibly the most successful racing Charger ever. I was lucky enough to be allowed to roam freely, with my camera, through the Petty Enterprises facilities. I just wish I had taken better photos.

Sweet hood AK, it even has the 73 style vents. What's the story behind it?

I freely admit to not being a fan of the 71-74 Chargers....me and that rear side window line never saw eye to eye. However there are some great looking Chargers in this thread.....Gonzoes red one particularly caught my eye....very nice Sir!

Good question I bought this a few years ago up in Ontario from a MOPAR guy and I wasn't savvy enough to know the '72/'73 vents so I'm going to assume it was manufactured BUT a couple of thing makes me think it may indeed be a unicorn:
1) The workmanship was EXCELENT and it would have been made BEFORE all the PG classic parts came out...I can not detect ANY cuts welds or modification
2) and this is the big one, There were FACTORY nut plates installed for the Actuator door bracket...kind of weird to do that for an option discontinued at least 18 month prior. My original '72 bulge hood doesn't have them?

I'm not going to sweat it either way though as it's not an original N96 car...I'm happy

Chargerguy74

I wasn't questioning if it was a fake at all (or repop). I just think it's really rare. My understanding is there were some crossover with the vent styles. Very curious if it was off a 72 originally, or possibly an NOS replacement for a 72/71.

I didn't see it as that. If I had to honestly guess I'd say it was for a late '72 build when the '73 parts were starting to show up and they just grabbed a bulge hood out of the pile, plopped it on the machine that made the cut out, installed the rest of the parts and "presto"
Oh, recalling my 8000 mile trip to buy it!
