New 69!

I've acquired another 69! (It is NOT an R\T, my understanding is someone put the badges on to be cool!)
Its a numbers matching plum crazy 69 charger 440 727 3.55 suregrip with AC, power steering, power brakes and factory disk brakes, bucket seats and center console shift. No wood grain, has shoulder seat belts (was that normal?) But yeah it runs and drives and is complete!
BUT the car is shot! It needs 90+% new metal, yes yes anything can be restored but its probably $40k to make the car rust free and right, so hush I covered that already, so now I'm at the corner of part it out and keep some stuff, sell it as mostly is (I'd keep a few parts odviously) or keep it and probably never restore it, it was savable 20 years ago, but then it sat under an oak tree for 20 years, which it actually still is sitting under an oak tree, damn oak trees
So what do y'all think? Id hate to break up a numbers matching car. But I bought it because it was a good deal $4,000 and it's very similar to my RT SE, and the grill and center console would almost pay me back alone.
So whats it worth as is? (Every panel has rot and the frame is SHOT!)
What would you do with it? (Don't say rent a warehouse and spend 2 years salary to restore it)
And it is getting rained in pretty much every day right now, also have a clean title for it!
Pictures will come, so calm down, and no I'm not exaggerating the rust, Im actually going to brace the frame with some bar stock to keep it from collapsing on its self

myk

Sounds to me like you want to part it out or sell it since it's so far gone, but feel guilty for doing so.  Just do whatever you want to.  I wouldn't drop $40K to resurrect a car either.  You could buy a solid driver for that type of money...

I kind of want to stop the rust, make the frame solid aka make my own solid frame under it, use galvanized thin steel and rivets to patch the large holes and romp around town and drive in the rain and just not care! Dirt roads, puddles, walmart parking lots, car shows to make people mad, the things most all of us are scared to do but I cant afford insurance and already have a project or 3, what I want to do and what I can afford to do are in different continents, dang reality

RallyeMike

Sounds like a parts car, but I'll hold judgement until the pictures come across. At least it wasn't scrapped.

Yes, came out in 1970.

VegasCharger

Even w/o seeing pics the grille is worth $1200.00 unless it's restored and console maybe $850.00 if it's in nice condition. A far cry from almost 4k unless you mean $2000.00 is almost.

Remember Lennard, us trying to sell your 1969 grille at Spring Fling priced at $1000.00 and had tons of people stop and look but wanted nothing to do with the asking price? We had one offer for $500.00  :smilielol: :smilielol:

Has Classic Industries repop grilles driven down the price of used one? Seems so? But I was surprised that a lot of folks at SF didn't know about CI grilles. And it still couldn't sell  :shruggy:

None-the-less I'm looking forward to seeing pics of this Charger.

::) I took it back home and Chris wanted it so I traded it for labor. ;D

Some of us are on a low-budget/long-timeline schedule and these cars are potentially a good solution.

I like rusty junk...I may want the car, send pics lol

Troy

I like to save stuff but if it's really that bad there's no way I'd touch it (mainly because I have to pay someone to fix most of that stuff). It's an R/T but it's an auto so that hurts the total (finished) value. The disc brakes are probably worth a decent amount.

Yes, shoulder belts were mandatory by that time. Plum Crazy hadn't been released yet though.

Troy
Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

I can't post pictures because my tablet and the site don't agree so of someone PM's me an email I will send the pics to be posted, and I have some now and can take more later, the car is not an RT its base, wether the color is factory or not doesn't bother me, I don't like purple but 69s actually look good enough to pull it off, and exact $s aren't concerning now as I know 99.9% will pay X and the rest will pay X to the power of 10 but I'm not selling anything right now, also the grill is not black on the sides its grey, I don't know if that factory but I think its kind of sexy looking!
And Im not looking to do anything with it right now, I'm just looking for ideas and what happens to it happens, even if it ends up being spares for my RT SE I'm ok with that

maxwellwedge

You said it's not an R/T but it has a numbers matching 440.....

myk

You can send the pics to me: mykranili@aol.com

Have you tried using photobucket.com?  It's free and easy to use for posting...

Sounds like quite a find. :2thumbs: but...

The '69 Charger R/T had the 440 as standard equipment. The 440 was not available in a non-R/T. So if it is "numbers matching", it is an R/T. If it is not an R/T, then it is not numbers matching. This is what maxwellwedge was referring to above.

The first 2 letters of the vin tell it all, XP = non-R/T, XS = R/T. The 5th digit is the engine code.

Front shoulder belts were standard equipment in '69 models. Rear shoulder belts were an option.

When you say "no woodgrain", do you mean on dash or on console?

Surprising at the cars that are still around, unfound.

could it be a 383 and there is just some confusion,  they do  look similar to a non mopar car guy  :scratchchin:

:scratchchin:  That's what I was thinking unless it is just a reference of the body stampings with the VIN/Tag..

Sorry I guys I went to the other coast and have been busy as heck, when it rains it pours! First Vin letters are xp, you're telling me that a non RT car could not be ordered?
If it's a 383 I'm going to kick my buddies butt, and he'll hang his head since he is a serious Mopar guy, so now I'm lost and need to talk to him tomorrow, either way I'm still in the black but I'll be seriously disappointed if I as mislead (no lectures needed)
If its not numbers matching I wouldn't care if I parted it out nearly as much, it is weird though it's an xp but has rt badges and a 440 unless someone was smart enough to try to be slick, sorry guys my mind's in another place right know, so as always thanks for the information, that wasn't what I wanted to hear but hey that's life haha, I'll be back sooner or later with more info and maybe some parts or a car for sale, only time will tell

That's exactly what we are telling you. XP cars did not get a 440. You could not get a 440 in a non XS R/T car. To get a 440, you had to get a R/T. Your vin will say XP29*9......what's the 5th digit?
