THE NEW CHALLENGERS

I like the looks of the shaker hood.

My question is, how is water directed away from the engine.

Where the hell does it go?

I looks fantastic but I'm predicting complication if you actually drove one of these things as your main car.

On my '99 Ram Air Firebird the hood nostrils would lead directly into the intake system if it weren't for baffles installed behind the openings. I would imagine that a similar baffling is used on the shaker hood.  Now, I've actually removed the baffles and have driven it in the rain; no damage or hydrolocking yet...

The scoop may sitting right on top of the intake, but the air is routed from the scoop around the side of the engine through the air filter and then into the throttle body which is in the front of the intake. In fact, as you can see in the pictures below, "some" air comes in through the forward slot in the airbox. But whatever air comes through the Shaker, I'm sure that the engineers have taken water into account. I would also venture to guess that the new Shaker is less functional than the old Shaker and is more of a decoration.

The SRT hoods just have a giant hole (doesn't feed the intake) so water, dirt, and bugs all just come into the engine compartment unimpeded. Cleaning is fun...

As mentioned, the shakers aren't a direct flow like the originals (but even those had water drains I believe).

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Ok so the engine compartment does get filthy dirty and yet.  That's the price of looking cool I guess.

Probably not so bad with the Shaker. Take a look at the normal SRT hoods - they're like an AAR style scoop that's wide open to the engine bay. Anything that you may see stuck in your grill is also funneled in there.

The shaker just looks cool and honors the old.  It doesn't feed anything does it?  It just sits on top of the intake.

The hellcat hoods have vents that allow (even encourage) the escape of hot air.  As far as I know the shaker hoods do some venting as well but it's not by design.

Just my observation. :shruggy:

If we weren't worried about looking cool, we'd all settle and be driving Honda Accords...

Haha.  How did you know.  My daily drive is a 2 door 2004 Accord V6.

I like the Shaker hood.  I'm hoping to have one some day for a daily driver.  Ideally, shaker hood, hockey stick strip (or whatever it is they are putting on) and the louvers on the back window.  They really got the design right.

It's not bad at all.  Looks respectable, somewhat sporty.  I had the rear tie rod ends changed to save on pre-mature tire wear, made the car handle better too.  I'm told the 6speed manuals are totally different animals;  I'm sure if I had a manual I would have gotten in a lot of trouble with it.
