I'm looking at paint buff kits 1 from Norton and one from 3M. Looking for some feedback on which one is best, or if they are both good. Open to other brands as well. Thanks for any help.

Here are the 2 I am looking at.

6" Complete Liquid Ice FinishingSystem
Item #51561Z Brand: Norton

3m Buffing/polishing Kit (Includes: 39060,39061,39062,5723,5725,5751)

Patronus

A big fan of the the 3M stuff...
After looking at the parts you mentioned Im sure you'll be happy with the results.
They also offer double-sided with a quick connect system to really knock it out fast.
Which I really like because the edge of the pad is a full radius and lasts longer.

You may want to view the YouTube videos that junkman puts out. He has various ones from washing to claying to paint correction (polishing).

Thanks for the replies. I was leaning towards the 3M stuff to begin with just based on the research I had done. I did check out some of the junkman videos...thanks for that.

Thanks again for the replies, I ended up ordering the 3M kit along with the 3000 and 5000 grit finishing sheets  :2thumbs:

My plan is to hit the dust nibs with 2000, then go over the car with the 3000 and then the 5000 and then buff it out. Hopefully all goes well.

2000 is pretty fine to take out dirt nibs. I would recommend at least 1500.  You want to take the nib down  as even as possible. it's hard to explain but the finer you go the harder it is to take the nib completely.  with the finer paper it may look like it's all gone until you polish it up aND you will still a dimple where the spot was. I actually use a razor blade, but I also do this work every day and am very comfortable with it. for a first timer it would definitely be intimidating.

Depending on the orange peal on the rest of the car . the 3000 will do almost nothing to any imperfections or orange peal.  I say almost , it will cut it slightly but don't expect it to smooth anything out.  You already purchased the 5000 so go ahead and use it but typically not a step I use.

Most importantly  don't be afraid ! Go at it ! a typical aftermarket paint job will have anywhere from 2 -4  mills of clear . keep your block flat when removing nibs , and your polisher moving always when buffing . Avoid edges ,they are the only points to be afraid of  !!!!!

Thank you Canadian68. I will get some 1500 for knocking down the dirt nibs. The car has virtually no orange peel on it so hopefully the rest of it goes good. It has been about 12 years since I last color sanded and buff/polished a car so it is pretty much all brand new to me again  ;)
