I've been playing around with mixing my own formulation of powder to try and get close to the look of original gold cad plating.  I know it will never look like real plating but sending everything out for plating just isn't in my budget.  I would like to come up with something more durable, and less yellow, than the Eastwood three step paint.  From what I can tell original gold cad was more silver-gold that the bright yellow gold of modern plating.  The look I'm trying to get close to is like the gold cad on this Midland-Ross booster.

Here's the first two batches.  I think the one on the left is a little too gold.  I need to add some green to them but they both have red added.  Opinions are welcome...

Have you looked into Caswell plating kits? The Zinc/cad plating materials are the cheapest. I use their kits to do chrome, gold and nickle plating. They work very, very well.

Yeah, I've heard the chemicals and associated equipment take up a lot of space and the gold cad results are so-so.  I'll look it over though, thanks.
