17 Inch Steel Wheels and Dog Dish Hubcaps

Hello,

I thought I had firmed up my decision to go with 17 inch Magnums, but wanted to see if anyone was repopping accurate 17 inch steel wheels and corresponding dog dish (poverty caps) hubcaps. Not sure if the increased size would translate to 17's but just wanted to check. I love the steels/dog dish look, but want the increased tire options and performance of 17s.

No one is producing these as an off the shelf item, but you may be able to custom order them from a place like Stockton that can put the oem style center into a 17" shell. However, be prepared to be driving a heavy weight.  I'd guess an all steel, OEM style steel wheel to be around 50# each. This will negate some of the performance advantage of going to a 17" size, although you will have a wider selection of compounds and styles.

Thank you both or the reply. I had indeed thought about the added weight and that was a major plus around the aluminum 17" Magnum repops. Maybe I'll just pick up a set of 15's just to change things up from time to time and not worry about going with one set. I'm sure many others on here probably do the same.

JR, I like those WV 62s, a lot.

And nobody makes any kind of "steel-look" aluminum version?  It seems like such an obvious idea.

Not sure who made these but here's a pic that will give you an idea of how the larger steel style wheels look.

Mike, that's what I was really hoping for.

White & Red, that pic is spot on.

Not good in my opinion :Twocents:

Run 16's.  Split the difference between new and old.
Same with tire sidewalls.  Split the difference and run a 50 or 55 series sidewall height.

Availability for 16" stuff isn't as good as 17's (tires, wheels, brakes, etc).  But it's not some weird obscure thing.  Millions of normal modern vehicles use it.

This is an interesting calculator.

Click on "Tire Comparison" (right above where you type in the tire size numbers) to compare two different sizes side by side.

Thanks, Mike, I'll look out for some 16"s. I ran 15"s and 16"s on three Buick GNs and definitely had better selection with the 16"s. I'll see what I can find.

I've used that calculator previously, it's an excellent tool.

Ya, great pic. The stagger seems weird tho. Is that a 15" in front?
Maybe someone could photoshoppe it to see it with 2 17's?
