I guess you'll be shopping for a new wife! ;D

:haha: :haha: I'll have to try russianbrides.com

We just got back from the stealership. We took one for a quick test drive last week but my wife wanted to drive it in downtown traffic to see if she would be comfy with it. I left work early and meet her at the dealership @ 4:30. Salesman then informs me they sold the car that morning and the only other one available was a stick which my wife won't/can't drive. I asked him why he didn't call me. Said he was busy and couldn't get to the phone, those guys are on the phone half the day :flame:. Won't be going back there.
Lighting 06, we looked at a Xa but my wife has a husky that she shows and we need the room for his cage.
Insurance will only be an extra $200./year. The kicker is what will they give me for the TB. I've looked it up and the books say 12k.
Twilt, we've had six different problems with the TB in the last year. The bumper to bumper warranty only covered half of them.

I've always owned a Toyota Tercel. same concepon it, small car, small engine, large cargo area. a great little parts hauler. I don't know if iI'd buy a Scion if I were to buy something new. I like the look of the Matrix, and I like the looks of the Pontiac Vibe (same exact car) even better. I actuly looked into buying one. But my tercel has 4WD and a 5 speed, and to get the 4WD option on the Matrix it has to be an automatic.

If I were to buy a replacment for my Tercel it would be a Matrix. I just couldn't drive something that shared lines with a Whirlpool Washing Machine.

well i think the scion, the honda that looks alot like it and the new durango / dakota are all a flip of a coin for uglyest thing on the hiway. if you get a new durango in silver it kinda looks like a pig! scion is deffinately #1 in the dorkmobile class. they do well with the gay crowd also, i know a couple male hair dressers who drive them.

Sorry dude, there's not a chance in hell you're gonna convince me that a friggin' Scion is in any way superior to domething a domestic manufacturer could make. It's a recycled beer can, smashed into the shape of a brick & put up for sale...15 years from now, it'll be living life as a beer car again. Just a recycleable, trow-away with no soul.
Pretty pitiful, if you ask me. :rotz:

Actually, the most pitiful part is when a car made in the country YOU live in is automatically looked upon as an inferior product. Does that also include YOU maybe? Maybe because you live & work in America, you're also automatically looked upon as an inferior worker? After all, if the American employees working in the American auto plants can't make something halfway decent, it must mean that nobody in this country can, huh? Folks in other countries are automatically superior & I should just accept it as that.

Ok, I don't like it because it looks like a cinderblock with kiddie-car bumpers & because it's made by some Zing-foo manufacturer that's adding to the theft of the American job market.

There you go, you wanted to know.

Ugliest car ever. Sorry, but with the money we have to fork out for a new car I want to be happy with its looks. My wife's daily driver is an 04 Subaru Forester turbo/5 speed. And yes there are times when I drive it. It's got great exhilaration and handling. One consideration is how far are you from the dealership your buying from. Just in case you have to take it back for something from time to time.

The Honda Element designer's must have been smoke'n the same dope.

Make no mistake that those types of cars are popular in Japan and other brands have the same design as well. They more popular with the younger kids over there and I know this because I was stationed over there for two years. Anyways, if you want foreign why not buy a bigger car like the Camry or something of the like if you are set on it? BTW, here's another one of those popular box styled cars on wheels and below that is import I drove for a year while in Japan.

:iagree:  I have owned Camrys for a long time and there great cars. There very roomy inside. Ive ridin in alot of comparible mid sized "American" cars like the newer Chevy impalas and the camrys are more comfortable and pretty much agreed upon by many other guys I work with being that they are both used to tranport the railroad crews around. You will also get a hell of alot more in resale when you sell. People can say what they want to about buying foreign but it will never change the fact that most of them are being made here by Americans compared to some of your Amerikan cars now.

Dale The Bold

The Toyota Scion xB is my mortal enemy.  There are cars I hate, but I passionately despise the Scion to the molecular level (from here on out, when I say "Scion," I am referring to the offensive Scion xB, as the other models under the Scion name are perfectly acceptable.).

What Scion owners don't realize is that owning one brings with it many social hurdles.  As has been alluded to, there will be the assumption that anyone driving a Scion is a pretentious, tree-hugging, gay, urban college student.  When I see it, I hear the "Hamster Dance" music declaring "I'm a dork, I'm a dork, everyone!!"  It's ugliness/dorkiness is distracting to other drivers (to be fair, the classic Charger's beauty has the same effect).  The Scion is so awful that people can't help but look at it, kind of the same marketing plan as Basic Instinct 2.  It is also visually offensive.  Yes, offensive.  Here's why.  When I see a Scion, I think "Good luck selling THAT disaster to anyone."  To me, it is the physical representation of everything wrong with modern automotive design.  And, what offends me, is that anytime someone buys one, it encourages the designers to produce more grotesquely hideous cars.  Or it tells them that they did something RIGHT!  The dork market was flooded before the Scion, and the muscle car market has droplets of the Mustang.  If you buy the King of Dorky Cars™, you are giving them a pat on the back for bringing my mortal enemy into this world.

Another byproduct of owning a Scion is that other drivers will not respect the car.  For every gallon of gas saved, expect seven insults.  And if a man drives the Scion, forget about gas mileage anyway.  He'll have to stop at every intersection and get out and check if he still has a penis.  I've been known to give the Scion the finger when it's sitting in a parking lot or at a dealership, just because of the reasons above.  I've also been known to speed up on the highway, just because I can't let my car be disgraced by being passed by my mortal enemy.  For a Charger owner to have a Scion, there would be a strange conflict, because you would own the most beautiful car in the world and the ugliest.  That much beauty next to that much ugly might make the world implode.  Either that, or you'd go out to the garage one morning and the Scion would be gone and the parts would be all mangled and dirty, sitting in the outhouse.

"Toyota Scion xB.  We actually make the Honda Element look good.  Honest to God.  The Element looks good compared to this.  Please accept our apology."

The ONLY way I could find it acceptable to own a Scion is to paint it like a school bus with the text "SHORT BUS" on it.  Because if you own one, that's what 90% fo the other drivers on the road will be thinking.
Matt. 14:8 (KJV) "And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, 'give me here John Baptist's head in a Charger.'"

Crazy Larry

Don't dodge neon's get good gas mileage?

There are other small models from Chevy and Ford that can compete as well.

I took my Dodge Intrepid to 200,000 miles - not bad for the "unreliable" domestic cars.
I guess when you step back and look at it, you can get reliable and thrifty with domestic cars. You just have to look and study the complaint websites/consumer reports.

and about supporting the economy - I believe 51% of the vehicle has to be made in the US to be labled a "Made in the USA" car (or somethign along those lines).
Sure Hyundai or Honda might have factories in the US, but they only have to make 10% of the vehicle here, and shoot a ton of commercials claiming that they are made by Americans now - and th epublic perception is steered to believe that they make just as many Hondas in the US as they do Fords or Dodges.

I've taken my last 3 Chrysler products well over 200K.

Without a doubt, you can find American made products in that price-range with great quality. Someone mentioned the PT. That's a great example right there.

I wonder, since those foreigners are so superior, do they butcher their languages as much as this. My spellcheck friggin pegged.

Ghoul, the Scion's are still made in Japan. We have looked at other car's but are in the 22-25k price range for the same amount of room. Ten years ago I would have never set foot on a foreign auto car lot. Now that I'm in my mid 40's I'm more concerned about reliability and cost than do I look good getting there. Besides, I can alway wear a bag over my head when I riding in the Scion.
Like other's have said she could be looking at a BMW or some other 50k+ car. I just have a feeling that we're going to be happy to see $2.50/gallon again. If the political crisis gets worse in the mideast, we could easily be looking at $4.00/gallon. We decided to dump the trailblazer while the dealers were still offering us Kelly BB on trade in.
For those who think I've cut off my manhood and flushed it I still have two Chargers, a Stealth RT/TT, a Firebird, Camaro, and two Chevy vans. Now please excuse me, I must go drive my Charger to re-affirm my manhood.

The odds are that the Jap ride is still more likely to last a bit longer & be more reliable.  There are defintiely some exceptions, but pitting a Trailblazer or a Neon-based model against something from small Toyota's small car line?  Not one of them.

$1000 per year in gas is aggravating but the depreciation hit for a modern Trailblazer may indeed outweigh that several times over.  Or if the price of gas keeps climbing at such noticeable rates, in another 3 years you may end up wishing you'd sold the TB now while you could still get SOMETHING  for it instead of being stuck with it until it dies.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Assembly cost is like 15% of the cost of the car.  Buying Japanese is sending the other 85% of the money to Japan instead of Detroit, even if the car is assembled here.

But Detroit won't make anything you want even if you DO support them.  (That's why you're fixing up Detroit's cars from 35 years ago while they insult & ingore you with their 2006 versions.)  We've been concerned with "supporting" Detroit for 20 years, and they're still not making what we want and they're still not making things as reliable as Japan.  I think it's more like "enabling the addict" at this point.

Sweet T

Buying a Japaneese car supports the North American market just as much as buying a new mopar.  Most of the parts supplied to the assembly plant are built here.  The cars are assembled here.  The companies support the communities they are in.  Obviously all the employees of these various plants responsible for production of these not so foriegn cars spend their earning in the good old US of A and Canada.  Besides aren't new mopars called something like Daimler-Chrysler?

I have no issues with the quality of my parents PT.
I also would never drive it because I hate how it looks.

Now that being said its the self delusional missguided patriotisem thats going to encourage US companys to produce shit box after shit box untill they get so bad that no one will buy em. I dont see buying amerian as such a nobal thing if the american product isnt what you want; quality/ style.

NOTHING!!!

Seems to me the only people that think/worrie about what there car 'tells' every one about them are muscle car owners and truck owners.

If you wanna get technical, I think assembly counts for 15% and parts/materials counts for another 10 or 20%  I'm not sure of the specifics (and it probably varies for each model & company & year).  But they all spend WAY more money designing & testing a modern car than they do fabricating & assembling the pieces.

The bottom line is still that something like 2/3 of the money for a Japanese car is going to Japan instead of Detroit.  They let americans assemble the cars here (instead of Mexico or Canada like Detroit itself does) precisely BECAUSE OF the misconception.  Japan can kick us 10 or 20% of the money and the public will think it's the whole thing.

"Daimler"- Chrysler?

They're foreign too now.  They're in a changeover, but they're basically headed for being nothing but a German company eventually.  They're just gonna stretch the job out long enough so we never get too riled up about it.

When I was in college, I had been driving my mom's car which had a rainbow sticker on it and it was vandalized because people assumed it was a gay person's car.  So, it really DOES matter what other people think sometimes.

Now, I won't think a person is gay and/or a hippie because they drive a Scion, but I will assume that they are pretty likely to be.  I will also assume that they grew up in a city or suburb, and not in a rural area.  I won't commit any hate crimes or vandalism, but I will think "what a doofus."

"Retarted," LOL.  Oh, the irony.
