so, im new here and been doing a fair bit of reading here on the forum.  im sure everybody here is pretty well tired of the "what wheel size" threads... but alas, I have one.

there seems to be an overwhelming bit of knowledge and advice about wheel fitment on the 68-69 cars. you have a nice sticky at the top of this section but am disappointed to see that its 17 pages of chit-chat and discussion rather than strictly info and photos.

I have a 1971 GEN3 and am about to make my first (hopefully last) wheel purchase for this car, and have concerns about optimizing the room in my fenders and avoiding a mistake.  some background:  1971 SE, 383 4bbl - 727TF, factory suspension and brakes, currently wearing the stock 5-spokes with trim rings. sorry no photos of the car yet, its not home from its $20k trip to the paint shop, but should be in a week or so.

Im pretty solid on torque thrusts (or similar style off brand) for my car.  torque thrust M with black spokes and machined lip is where im pointed currently.  id like to go 15-16 inch because I like the old school muscle look over the "bling" trend in wheels these days.  im not opposed to 17's if I have to get them to get the fitment I want.  I will likely be going with a 6" wheel in front (may go 7" depending on price/availability) with stock tire height/width so I have no questions regarding the fronts.

IN THE BACK:  like most people are chasing... id like to fill the wheel well both height and width.  wide as possible without having to make mods to suspension or having rub/bottoming issues with a full backseat.  I would like to get 15 or 16x10" if they will fit, and am not opposed to using 1/4"-1/2" spacers if needed.
as far as tire size goes I can sort that out at the tire store, I have a relative that manages one and can mount a few types/sizes of rubber before buying to get the fit/clearance.   id just like to not order wheels I cant return or use. im not looking to get that perfect 1/2" gap between both fender and leaf, just as much tire as I can reasonably fill the hole with without buying a full set and then re-buying.

anybody with GEN3's have advice or recommendations?  photos?

EDIT: I dug up a pic of my '71 before any work started, and found a pic here on the forum of the look I like (thank you to the OP, beautiful car!) with the rake and big rubber/small wheel

You will probably get a ton of suggestions because everyone's taste is different. If I had a third gen, I'd like to put those black D rims. Kinda like nascar rims. Maybe 15x8 or 15x7 all around. With either 245/60 or 235/60 all around so that you can rotate them. Or stick some 15x10 in back with 295s.

I have a '71 SE 383 (originally) car. I'm running 15x8 rear, 15x7 front. With 275/60 and 255/60 tires.

Maybe not the best shot of my 72 SE; 15X7 all around, front 255X60 and rear 275/60.

There is a thread about this topic made by PaulG with his former bronze 440 rallye.. Lot of good info there with try and error learning

Now about my personal taste... i like all 4 corners same size, and IMHO 255/60 is the best suit size on to 15x7 wheels.

About bigger wheels... If you ask me Not more than 17", but I can't tell about tire sizes on these wheels.
