Window regulator and motor

[400/6/PAC]

2000 Mitsubishi Gallant
Right front window switch seems to be stuck in up position.
The regulator was broken, I bought the new assembly and when I plugged it in it went up and then the motor got hot.
With no up or down switch being pushed it has 12 volts to the motor, When I hit the down switch the volts drop to zero.
I need to figure out if the passenger switch is bad or the driver switch is bad or if I need to actually install the new assembly for it to work right.
Electrical problems didn't make sense to Me since the old motor is still good the only problem was the broken gear on the regulator.
Any help would be appreciated.
