hello all can someone measure the distance from the bottom leg of the R on the R/T tail stripe to the edge of the quarter panel not to end of the end cap

igozumn

I took some pics a long time ago.  Others may have better ones.

I'm always surprised by the number of cars that have rather badly mis-located stripes

the OP's picture shows the LH quarter stripe installed on the RH quarter  :o

The right side corner is slightly whacked on my car, the end of the scale is located where I believe the correct body line would be.
The camera angle makes it look odd.

Look at the way the stripes line up on the top of the quarters. Also, when put on the wrong side, the R/T is crooked. Lastly, when installed properly, the strip is at an angle on the side of the quarter, not straight as shown in the picture.

daveco

Were there ever any factory drawings available for the stripe location?
R/Tree

charge69

I have no idea about factory drawings but I think they were just put on using common sense and "a practiced eye" as they came down the assembly line.  I, also measured the original stripe in several places and used that as a guide installing the new one.  However; I think  it would be reasonable to assume they were hastily put on and no real exact measurement was used. Just make sure the stripe is centered on the reflectors and it should line up correctly.

Then again, mine may not be right in the eyes of the forum but, "It is what it is" applies!

ht4spd307

the reason i'm trying to get the measurement is mine is a factory delete stripe but i wish to add the stripe but retain the r/t badges .i know its not factory but i like it that way and before go out and purchase a stripe i want to find out if it going to work out for me

daveco

I've seen it done like that, with the emblem and stripe. Looked good :2thumbs:
Seen many poorly located decals, rarely see an emblem on wrong.

charge69

Using both looks great to me. Again, just make sure the side stripe is centered on the reflector and parallel to the bottom part of the quarter panel.

ht4spd307

what I'm hoping is that the stripe falls in the right place as the holes for the badges are already there from factory as i don't really want to relocate holes but i read in another post a while back someone else doing this but had to move the badge which I'm not keen on  :rotz:

charge69

Well, obviously, there will not be holes in the stripe for the emblems.  If you ordered the stripe, you did not get the emblem! Just put the stripe on correctly and then, I guess, you will have to punch a hole in it for the emblem!

ht4spd307

the whole point is that i'm trying to measure the correct stripe position so when i do put the badges they land  center of the center stripe but having the holes in the panel there already means the stripe needs to be in the correct position prior the putting the badges on.that's why i was asking for the measurement to the bottom leg of the R  to the end of the quarter panel hope that all made sense  :yesnod: :rotz:

You do realize that the "R/T" emblem is already part of the stripe !  You would have to use a '70 Charger 500 stripe to make it a solid stripe for the emblem to look right. The "R/T" emblem hole may not be centered where the stripe goes and you would have to move the emblem to look right.

igozumn

I have pics, but no measurements for the RH side.  But it got me to looking and I noticed, that my car doesn't have the stripes put on symmetrical from side to side.  On the LH side, the middle body line/crease runs right through the middle of the "R", but on the right side, it is almost through the middle of the "T".

I would get some measurements for you, but my car, just like daveco (and just about every VW bus), has that corner bashed in also.

What I would do, is if your delete badges are still on the car, I would use some masking tape to make a temporary stripe to see how it lines up.  I know I've seen it done on other cars too.  I'd use the '70 stripe (charge69 beat me to the post) without the R/T cutouts so you don't have to worry about getting it to line up with the badges.

Is the stripe R/T cutout slightly larger than the badges?  Never really paid much attention when I've seen it done.

ht4spd307

yes the 70 stripe is the one i would use i'm not sure if the badges are the same size as the stripping r/t emblem like i said just trying to see if the badge will fall center of the middle stripe  with out moving holes

Getting the stripe to line up exactly where the R/T emblem will land is going to be tough and I would tend to doubt that the cut out on the stripe exactly the same size and shape as the emblem. You might be better off having a '69 stripe cut as just a solid stripe without the R/T and then just apply the emblem over the stripe.

i don't think anyone is understanding what i need  daveco & igozumn has given me the right information but his stripe is incorrect   .what i indent to do is put a 70 stripe which has no R/T cut out then put the badges on top of the vinyl stripe but i need the measurement  as shown in my first post to make sure the badge falls in the correct location which is center of the vinyl stripe

Mopar Nut

I measured 4" between the edge of the quarter and the "R" in the R/T emblem on a R/T SE centered on the curve of the quarter.

It's pretty clear what you want to do.
The only thing that would impact your plans would be a significant difference side to side in the front to rear location of the existing emblems. My best recollection, on the cars I have seen, is that the R/T emblems are more or less centered over the side marker. The stripe decals are available without the R/T cut into them. Should be relatively easy to center a solid (no R/T cutout) stripe decal over the existing emblem locations.

this post is the reason why i ask the question as this member pushed the holes 1/4 " forward to get the badge center of the stripe so please keep the measurements coming as too many references don't hurt anyone       this is the link      http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php?topic=98582.0
