Opinions on value of V code project........

I don't follow the 70 Charger pricing but I like this painted project on carsonline.

Asking price is 39900. My gut feel is its too much for a non numbers car in the middle of a resto. But it is a V code with a hi impact color.

I know it's been on there for a while but didn't know it was that long. I guess the market speaks to projects being a tough sell.

I've decided the next project I buy will be a painted shell. I can do everything else a resto needs but I'm not a good painter. The hardest part of a resto is finding a body shop that is reliable and will do a good job in a timely manner.

great color & OPTION list (short of a 4-speed)
my concern would be how much metal was replaced, quality of paint work (how long ago was it done, shelf wear? from sitting) & what did it look like pre-paint?

I know of a sitting original engine SIX PACK auto '70 Charger R/T project (originally 3.23s  ) - I think I could elevate it to the yellow car's current status paint/bumpers/parts/wheels (farming out the paint/body) for mid-$30s  which would probably end up around $40K.

If you were a painter you sure as hell wouldn't put crap on the car. 
It's poor common sense alone that would steer me clear. Give $30K to someone who cares.

It's a V code charger I give it that but priced to high to finish it correctly.  One would be in the red on this project.

You need to go look at it and see the workmanship, the build sheet, and condition and completeness of parts inventory, and if they match the build sheet. Other people's projects can be a nightmare. If you bought this car as a complete barn or field derelict you'd probably pay $15k plus body work and parts. So $30k sounds ok as long you are not redoing bad workmanship or having to find a lot of correct parts.

I agree. I passed. Only because I like working on them more than holding them. So my goal is to at least break even after a restoration. I think I would be upside down when done. It seems the non numbers 70 V Code cars don't bring big enough money to cover the cost of finishing this restoration.

I agree::  If you had to find a V-code unrestored 15K would be minimum. From that point on to finish you end up with endless variations of restoration cost depending on labor/parts choices. GO LOOK AT IT! then decide if you are happy with it at this point in the resto then go for if not keep looking.
I have several V-code project cars that 20K would not/have not bought... 10K more for a painted car seems OK  IF THEY ACCEPT>>>
