I had 3k miles left on my warranty when I went to the dealership, because when my engine is cold, there is a ticking noise. Goes away after it is warmed up. Stealership said "Nothing is needed at this time".

So that was the winter of 2014/2015.  I have noticed the sound is louder now, and it happens when I start it cold when it is 60-70 degrees out, where back then it had to be below 40.  It goes away after 5 minutes of driving.

My local mechanic says I have "Valve Lash"

Have you heard of this? Should I be concerned?

I have 99,000 miles on my 2010 Charger V6 3.5L. I know I have to do the timing belt at 6K, and my mechanic says he could do something about the valve lash then.

Is this an expensive repair? Should I deal with the lash, in 6K or just ignore it and treat my car like an old lady?

They are good motors. I have one and it 300000 on it. If you are going replace your timing belt replace your water pump. And have him check oil pressure to make sure it's not your oil pump. Had to replace mine because it was doing what yours was doing. That's my two cents. :popcrn: :shruggy:
i am a fair person and up frount person and try to help if i can. i love my mopars thats. all i ever owned first car was my 69 charger at the age of 15.

I've got 175,000 on my wife's 3.5.  No problems but I changed timing belt and water pump to be safe.  It uses a quart of oil in between changes.  I expect it to keep on running.  I had a ticking noise when cold and it sounded like a lifter, but it wasn't engine related.  I think it was a vacuum valve on the firewall but I don't remember for sure.

Tick Tick Tick Tick Tick Tick Tick Tick to me sounds like a time bomb ready to go off.

There is a tiny little diaphragm pump underhood somewhere that will tick at startup and sound just like a lifter tick. It has something to do with the evap emissions system.

what i do to stop the tick in those 3.5's if you start it and hear it, let it run for a few seconds, shut it off for about 10.. and literally just start it again, it works just about everytime

i also use 5w30 in the winter and 10w30 in the summer,

and freaking check your oil, they do consume oil fairly quickly, if i had just a nickel for every car i worked on with low oil  :brickwall:
