Were all the bell housings for the 4 speed the same for the years 68 to 74?  Seems prices are all over the place depending on years from 400 dollars up to 2500 dollars  :o

Of those years the hemi four speed bell housing uses a direct drive starter instead of the normal gear reduction starter. That's why those are rare and expensive.

My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............

ahhh...ok can my BB bell housing accomdate a HEMI?  Seems the housings are different it seems between BB and HEMI.

Rolling_Thunder

you can use a typical BB bellhousing on a hemi. You can use a typical starter as well -    you dont need to use the direct drive starter and accomodated bellhousing unless youre going after a 100% accurate restoration

2013 Dodge Challenger R/T - 5.7L Hemi / 6-speed / 3.73 Limited Slip

1964 Dodge Polara 500 - 440 / 4-speed / 3.91 Sure Grip

Yep. I've done this a few times now. I am not a fan of the direct drive starter at all.

Uh-uh, only the '66-'69 used the direct drive starter and 172-tooth flywheel. '70 and later used the 130-tooth flywheel and the same bellhousing and starter as the 383/440.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.
