That does sound pretty suspicious... i wonder if next time it comes up if any one that lives close by is willing to go have a look.

It IS the VIN from the car in the woods.

There is no doubt.

The car is a fraud.

Does not have a 70 trunk lid on it

I'm pretty sure early build 70s didn't have cutouts, it was a midyear change. My 70 was built August 69, still has its original trunk and never had the cutouts.

That said, I don't know the build date of this particular 70.

Mine is a March 69 build and no cut outs. As you said mid year thing.

And for the love of god has the underneath been shot with rhino liner ????

The guy selling it on craigslist may not have known it was a 318 car with a V code VIN on it.  :scratchchin:

But...

The guy that sold it to him is the guy that swapped the VIN onto the 318 car.  :Twocents:

The dash frame with the V code VIN attached was removed from the car in the woods pictured above.

But, there's just o-n-e little detail :

He had failed to receive the car owner's permission prior to removing the dash frame and VIN.

He's a flipper that's gotten away with crap like this for decades.

Well, then this would be a great time to report it stolen.  :2thumbs:

If it were mine, I would have done it years ago when it happened.

I was just the guy that hauled the car to the place in the woods.

Sounds like if the vin belongs to someone else, would not the car portraying to be that car belong to that person that the vin is titled to? :shruggy:
