Anybody else on here purchase one of them locking insert's to go under your fuel cap on 2nd gen charger's? I finally purchased one from Layson's restoration's for my car and it fit nicely!!. I have always worried about someone popping the flip top cap open and pouring or dropping something down the filler tube that doesn't need to be in there. I would see a few of these insert's on ebay now and then but they would go for a ridiculous price until someone on here posted that Layson's is selling a repro. I have been tinkering with the Fi tech set up and the sub frame connectors and completely forgot about ordering the insert until monday. It came in today and I was actually at home for a few min's when the mail man drove up with it so I ran straight out to the shop with it and stuck it on there. Another addition that no one will ever see just like the bell housing cover I ordered monday too!! LOL

They do provide some peace of mind. The one on my Charger has been there since 1970 and has held up well.
Hope the reproduction piece turns out to be a good product for you.

Thanks for posting it as I will need one.Bought one already but that's no good because in order to use it I'd have to take the rubber seal ring off from the flip top cap!
When I bought it didn't read the ad fully and it said only can use if the flip top cap seal ring is broken off which mine isn't!

I have one but can't use it. Had someone throw the keys away on me. Figured it out on the road at a gas station on empty. It holds up. I couldn't get it out. I ended up having to screw up the filler and get it pushed down inside so I could pump fuel in, then change the filler tube when I got home.

I thought about that when I took the key's out of the plastic bag they were in. I immediately put one on one set of key's and the other on the spare set so I wouldn't lose them.

I have a set of "shop keys" that have a keychain with all my contact info to go with it when it goes to the shop. Had the spare on that. It did me no good 2 hours away at home on a Sunday and I was on empty. I should have kept the spare inside the car.

I bought one. Have issues with it. Hard to unlock, bent the key. Called and was told no one else has this issue. So I only turn it so far to lock it. Still kind of messed up.

I've given some thought to buying one of these from Layson's but getting stranded somewhere because it wouldn't unlock it or I, somehow, lost the key has kept me from buying one!  My Charger rarely, if ever, goes to a show and get's topped off, first thing, every time I take it out, makes me hesitate to get one.

Rarely, if ever, would an opportunity arise for someone to put something in my tank.  I still remain on the sidelines for this item.  If I was to take it to more shows, I think I would look more seriously at getting one. People to strange things when they are at car shows for unknown reasons!

I had that problem on my Charger one time when I went to fill up with fuel I could hardly get the locking cap out of the filler neck and ended up bending the key and managing to get it out, if I remember the reason that I came up with is over the years of putting the gas nozzle in the filler neck the one side of the ears that protrudes below the top edge of the filler neck gets bent out of shape and the locking cap tends to get caught on that bent part at least thats what i think.

I was more interested in having one because my car came with one from the factory. I never really worried about someone trying to steal fuel or throw stuff in my tank.

But I think I still liked having it. One day I will fish it out and take it apart, remove the tumblers in the lock so any small key or even a flat head screwdriver will unlock it.

I bought one off E-bay and the seller says I have to remove the seal and the spring that holds the seal on, haven't tried to fit it one the car yet but I know it also fits the filler neck on the A Body cars as well so I'll be fitting one to the Cuda as well.  :2thumbs:

My car did not originally have a locking cap. I bought a used one from a member and it works perfect. I did not remove the seal from the flip top cover. The flip top cover shuts fine. No issues.

They are talking about 2 different locking caps.  The factory design fits under the cap without removing anything.  The other one is taller so it doesn't fit without removing parts.  I bought a n.o.s. in the factory box with two keys on ebay 10 years ago for $100.

Yes I was talking about a different cap,I think it's just a b body cap.I used to have an nos one but sold it 4 years ago.So now I need one!I could use the other one but won't damage my brand new flip up gas cap for that!
