'68 to '69 to '70...door differences?.....

So, my '69 is running and life is good, and I'm starting to look at interior parts & prices.  So I go to hook up all the door lock rods and think about window regulators...when I notice something odd...again....

When the car was at the body shop, the decision was made to replace both my doors with used ones from Wildcat Auto wrecking (local MOPAR wrecking yard).

These were the only major parts for the car that I did not personally provide to the body shop.  The shop called and got two used doors sent to them.

So I noticed that the hole for the drivers door lock handle is at the back and hole for the passenger door lock handle is about 6 or 8 inches forward.

Looking at the old door pads...either I had the wrong door or doors before, or I have the wrong door or doors now...

So my first thought is that I have a mismatched set of doors!    :brickwall:  :shruggy:   :flame:  :icon_smile_angry:

Any help would be appreciated...

The 68's had the pull lock door rod back towards the end of the door. Great for using the door as an arm rest whilst cruising.  ;)  In '69 the location moved forward, just enough to make hanging your arm out the window not comfortable. Just another small detail where Dodge got it right right out of the gate.  ;)

So yes, you have a '68 door and a '69/'70 door. Only a Mopar guy would notice.

If you've the linkage from the 68 I would think you could cut a new hole in the correct location.

Do you have the lock rod parts from your original doors? It is not a hard job to change it over .

I don't think I have the lock parts for the '68 door.  If I do, or I get them somewhere, I'd have to cut a new top hole, as well as drill the holes where the '68 lock rod lever bolts to the door, as there are no holes for that on my driver's door...

Also, is there a noticeable difference in the door pads from one to the other?

Are there any other differences?  Is this gonna screw up my window installation?

Is this why my drivers remote mirror control is clocked all wrong?... (pushing up goes down and left...)

My car is a mutt, an "R/T Clone" so I already know the "MOPAR Nazis" at car shows are gonna be talking crap about the car not being "correct" anyway...  It's not like I've ever hidden it.  I make a point to tell people that my car got swapped from a 318 to a 440 22 years before I bought it...

Don't sweat the pickers and haters.  :2thumbs:  Post parts wanted ads here you'll get what ya need and others will help sort out how to do it.

Just use your 69 parts and simply drill a hole for the lock rod.

Sounds like all you need is a different upper door pad.  It might be fun to see who notices.  :shruggy:

My '69 is an early build and had a number of late '68 date coded pieces...as well as the '68 lock location. Not much anybody can really say 'bout your car.
Good luck, Mike.
