Guy here in my home town just sold a 70 426 Hemi motor for 30,000. Anybody know of anyone who just bought a motor in Northern Ind. Didn't get to ask if it was used or a creat motor, or the vin, just letting everyone know.

myk

Amazing what they sell for...

A 1970 motor, for $30,000?

Somebody was buying the numbers on it.

For that kind of scratch, I hope that it was completely rebuilt and the purchaser saw it on the dyno & looking like it came off the assembly line, carbs to pan, complete with matching numbers for the vehicle it's going into.

30K for a 426 ?.  Not here.

In, 2009, I paid $6,500. for a  Nascar spec, fully documented, short block assy that was built in the Highland Park engineering "Motor Room". The numbers on the pad indicate it was used in my car for the Daytona 125 mile qualifying race in Feb. 1969. (was numbered "99", entered as a "Nichels Engineering" entry and had Paul Goldsmith driving - it was a Charger 500 at that time)  Date stampings on the crank indicate it was 'freshened up' in January 1970 and never run since.
I consider myself extremely lucky to find it...
I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?

It is not just the price of a Hemi engine you have to consider.   Any ass hat can get a Hemi engine built that has eight spark plugs in the valve covers.   It's the carbs, the exhaust manifolds, the valve covers, all the little parts that get expensive if you have to have "the right engine" for a particular application.    I am not suggesting 30k is at all a good deal.   Considering there is almost zero factual information given in the original post other than someone sold an engine, it's hard to make a comment other than, "it's a lot of money".

I would call that a "score".  Not just a little score.  A really big score.     I would gladly pay that for a complete short block that I could prove actually raced in my car.

I would say congratulations to the seller.  It's hard to imagine they took a loss at that price. :o

As for the buyer? :scratchchin:  They made the decision to close the deal.  I would guess they are not a flipper.

Especially if it started out with XX29J9******* and not to be that of a C500 ( that in its own right is pretty darn rare, more rare than a Daytona )..

Me to tan top  :2thumbs:

That engine sure looks solid, complete, and well presented.---But the price?
I guess it's just another example of a reality check on how much money is worth these days. :slap:
Also I'm sure the seller is celebrating  4/26  and maybe even the buyer? :shruggy:

I guess I am a ass hat, but still can't afford a 426 Hemi.

Not up on 426 stampings, but anyone else see something amiss in those last 3 digits?

Neither can I.   But without knowing the particulars of the engine (supposedly) sold, it's pointless to say it's a good or bad deal, other than, yeah, a lot of money.

69rtse4spd

Well the only other info I got on the Hemi was, the seller pulled it out of a 70 Newport someone dropped it in. He does have a 440 six-pack motor & 4-spd he is keeping.
