Used redline tires.....

Tomorrow I'm getting new rubber on the Charger.  I love the old redlines but they're over ten years old and I just don't trust them anymore.  Part of the cost of the new tires is a "disposal fee" for the old tires.  Being that there is still plenty of tread, I do not think that they will make it to the recycling station.  I'm think of keeping them and letting a gear head brother access to them with full knowledge of their age.  I want no liability on my part, but in the same breath, I don't want to pay a disposal fee only to see them for sale on Craigslist.....

This is a great post.

I recently installed a nice set of tires that were replacements for long over due tires.   The old tires are dated 1976 and have almost full tread with no checking/cracking that I can find.

So when I toss these old tires will someone see dollar signs and use them?

IMO just toss them to recycle. -- If you try to get a few bucks because they look good you are joining those that just want to make a quick buck.

The disposal fees are another part of the bigger picture.   Tires are tossed on the side of the road because of those charges.

Sometimes it's tough to do the right thing. :slap:

Not really looking to sell them, but maybe just let someone have them for a show no go scenario.  Probably just safer to let them go.....

Moving on and letting go is refreshing with no looking back.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

A lot of guys like those old tires to use for display, not necessarily driving. Especially day 2 resto guys. So, my advice would be don't throw them away just yet. If they look nice, try to sell them first. Someone might be proud to have them. If you can' give them away, then yeah, you can drop them off at the tire shop for disposal.

Only bald tires actually get recycled. Those stores employees shift anything with some tread left on them out the back door to the local cheap tire sellers. Anything worth a few bucks they sell themselves on Craigslist (I have bought great tires for peanuts from Tire store employees). I don't care as I am paying to get the old rubber out of my life. I don't care where it ends up or if any body else makes money off them.

I buy often reproduction tires but still love old vintage tires for display (or driving around town with slow speed in good weather).
So I wouldn't kill them, there might be a gearhead wanting them

around here you pay the disposal fee whether or not you leave the old tires

keep & pass them around or sell them, many people have projects that just need rollers

Last year I replaced a set of Goodyear Polyglas GT's. The old Polyglas GT's that came off the car had to be 20 years old. However, they still looked brand new. No cracking, dry rot, visible age, and nearly any tread wear.
I advertised them for sale, disclosed their age, and presented them as they could be used perfectly as spares for the trunk.
They were sold in less than a week.
