hey does anyone have an idea how much value is lost on a color change on a 69 matching #s car? thanks

Charger RT

my guess would be what it would cost to change it back.

Theres a few things to consider, like;

- is the existing paint the original paint?
- is the existing paint a rare colour option?
- will the new paint clash with the interior?
- Is it a rare car?

IMHO, if the car has already had a respray and the original colour is horrid (I'm lookin at you Burnt Orange!) than I don't think it would negatively impact the value of the car and may actually increase it if it's done right, like painting a tan small block Charger black.

As long as it's done to a high standard, is tastefully done and compliments the car's other features, then it should not hurt the value unless it was a survivor car and its paint was in great shape.

I agree with most of the above. :2thumbs:

The ever ending question about value is something that is only needed at point of sale.

If a particular color is in your mind you may search your whole life looking for it. You can have it now and be happy.
Make what you have to your liking and enjoy it while you can.

just remember that some colours are WAY more popular than others .  :yesnod:   and changing a # matching cars colour ,will affect the value to someone that  the term # matching  means something to  :Twocents:

IMO
changing a less desirable color to a popular '69 Dodge color: X9 - black, R4 - red, B5 - blue & you'll find the market forgiving
changing to to a non-stock color: tangerine, Viper red, plum crazy, etc. would take a hit in the "stock" Charger world.

what colors are "WE" talking about?

IMO intact original paint has been chronically under-valued in the muscle car world.  Anything that can be cranked out today is less valuable than something that has to survive for 50+ years.

Depending what the car is determines whether a color change matters. Are we talking about a matching numbers 318 car or matching numbers Hemi car?

At this time I am changing my 69 Charger 500, non #s, Y2 yellow,440/auto car to B5.  I wen't back and forth and ultimately the Y2, though rarer in a 69 C500, did not appeal to me.  I love B5 blue, so thats what it will be.  You will have to ask my kids if it effects the value, because I don't plan on selling it.  But, if a real Daytona or Superbird purchase was in the balance all bets might be off :shruggy:  I would rather drive the car I want rather than tell people it is a terrible color, but that makes it worth a few more dollars :Twocents:

a less desirable color

You don't mean . . . . cough, cough . . . green . . cough . . . do you?

Green to black is probably a winner in most everyone's book.  Sorry greenies, I owned and loved a triple green '68.  But the reality of the marketplace is that black is priced as an upgrade to green.

I owned a black with red wing Daytona clone.  It was beautiful, but extremely hard to keep that way.  I would not do another black car especially one that big.  By the time I got finished with one side the other was dirty again :brickwall:

I had a 70 RT Green on Green that was a 40k CA car -------Loved the car, but hated the color.  I eventually sold it and bought a Plum Crazy RT.   When I picked up my 68, it was green on green ---- couldn't do it again!   I painted it black.

At the end of the day, it's your car, and do what will make you happy!   Enjoy the hell out of it and be proud of it.

If it is anything below an R/T, was any shade of green, and the current paint is not original or is original but absolutely has to be redone, it wont matter...

So if it is a RT or higher you must stick with the color it came regardless of what you want :rotz:I think not :nana: :Twocents:

You can do whatever you want with it. The discussion is about value.

Resale Red or Obligatory Black are probably safe.

Get a brown car, and never have to wash it again.  Except in Seattle, where everything turns green.

If it's not original, people will use that to talk you down in value.  If it's an ugly, original color, people will use that to talk you down in value.  I payed $20,000 for my 88,000 mile original '69 Charger R/T in T7 Dark Bronze Poly.  There's a guy on craigslist selling his T7 '69 Charger R/T, painted B5, for $70,000.  I guess ugly original color, or desirable color change is a wash.
