Hi all -

Well, I made a brief mention of this car awhile back and thought I would post some pics as I just recieved the car on Sat. I have just become the proud owner of a 1969 Pontiac Grand Prix SJ, 428. I was able to purchase the car from the original owner. The car runs, brakes and drives PERFECT - a little rust by the rear window which is being delt (going to the media blaster tomorrow) with and some other misc odds and ends, but all in all a GREAT car that needs a little TLC. I have already send away to PHS-online to obtain the documentation on the car. The car will be restored to its ORIGINAL condition and used as my new Daily. This is down right FAST and will make and EVIL sleeper!

Some background on the GP. Again, purchased from the original owner, here are some of the options - I'll know everything else once I get the PHS info:
- Real SJ XF code 428 370hp
- Gold with dark green viynl top
- Gold leather interior
- power windows
- tilt wheel
- cruise control
- A/C (that works)
- Rear defrost
- AM stereo w/factory rear 8-track
- Rear speakers
- Power front discs
- Power front seat
- Rally gauges with 140mph Speedo
- 14" wheels with disc style hubcaps

It will a good garage mate for the Charger...

Cool car congrats. I hope your work commute is a short one. ;D

Nice find, congrats.  :2thumbs:

I just remembered after seeing the pics that someone around the corner from my parent's house had one in black. I don't know if it was a the exact same year or if it were a SJ, but it wasn't beat up, just faded. Never could get into the nose for that year, I liked the 68 & 69 noses a little better.

Good luck with it, Bob

I take the subway to work everday so no worries about commuting. I was looking for another car for awhile and didn't want anything new - plus I only drive on the weekends. When I was a kid my Grandfather had a 72 Monte 454 but said he always wished he'd bought the GP. So, I figured what the hell - the car is going to the media blaster on Friday to take care of the roof, then we'll strip it, have the front bumper rechromed and then we'll get it ready for paint. Over the winter I'll do the interior and then just enjoy it - it's actually a really great highway cruiser.  No posi as of yet, but I will eventually put one in. All in all it's just a cool ride... and would you believe it's BIGGER than the Charger by 1.8"s... all hood baby, all hood.

On another note, the Charger goes on Friday to get my MOSER axles installed as well as my new Edelbrock IAS shocks -  :yesnod:

Cheers - Mike

I like!!! I used to have a '73 triple black Grand Prix. That was the year the big deal was putting real wood from an African crossfire mahogany tree on the door panels and dash. I just had the 400ci J model though.

I like it.   That is a rare car and should hold it's value very well.

I have a good friend who's parents bought one just like it new.  It was yellow.  Very fast car.  I always wished I would have bought it from him after his parents passed on.  He finally sold it because of lack of storage and he wasn't a big car guy anyway.  They will increase in value for sure.  I would like one some day also.

greenpigs

I had my eye on a 69 SJ 20 years ago but the guy moved..it was a 4speed!

Back in high school I had a 76 LJ with a 455..and that is what I would like again. This time I would put honeycombs on it, wish I had kept it.

Anyways NICE ride...any clues on the price it took to get it?

Thanks to everyone that replied.

I got very lucky on this car - I saw on CollectorCarTraderOnline and had been looking for one for a little while. Most of which were the standard "J" models. Anyway I saw this online - I was at the website in the morning and it wasn't there, then I went back in the afternoon and poof! there it was, very crappy pic and said only 3 things... "1969 Grand Prix SJ, 428, Original owner", that was it. I called immediately and was the first caller on the car, I spoke to the gentleman who was selling it and was on the phone for quite sometime - I asked why he was asking what he was as it was LOW and he said he just wanted to see the car go the write person and that it wasn't about the money.

Well... 1 hr. on the phone and a fedex'ed check for $3500.00 and it was mine. The car was priced less then half of any of the others  that I saw, but I figured for $3500, even if it was a basket case I still would be ok. Turns out it was really a diamond in the rough as the car is great. Think of it as getting a real Charger RT for the price of a 318 bare bones stocker.

Deals are still out there gentleman! I love the INTERNET!

That is true. That's how I got my life time desert Charger for $1,500. So, I would hope your going to send this guy some pics when your done repainting it. Any plans on wheels yet? Would look cooler with the honeycomb or Pontiac road wheels, and some 60" tires.

The Charger is the hotrod... this car is WAY too clean to mess with and with it having the same owner it's never been torn apart - all the original factory marking and some of the original tags are still there. The thing that will change are the wheels, I will of course keep the original wheels and hupcaps in storage, but for right now I plan on replacing them with some 15x7 Rally II wheels with redline tires. They were and option on this car, so they will look right at home.

Wow you got that one cheap.  I was guessing twice that much.

Nice GP! Next to Mopar it's the car! I've had my eyes on this one for awhile, but times I've been by it nobody's home. Being 4 states away don't help either!

Good to see you finally got the car. Id say it was a real nice catch and looks unmolested right down to the AC still being in tact. I agree with the 15 by 7 Rally 2s on there as well. The car will look sharp as hell. A guy here not to long ago had a complete 428 4 bolt motor in the want ad and was asking $2500 for the motor itself. Id say you stole that car

What, no duals?..  :-\

(loose the stickers)

Thinkin of a hood tach?..

NYCMille

The hood tach is a definate consideration - the exhaust will eventual be redone with a 2.5" system with resonators and factory turndowns - I'm heading the media blaster right now to get a quote on the rust - wish me luck that he doesn't rake me over the coles.

4402tuff4u

Who are you using Mike for the media blasting? I know of another in LI if you want a second quote. He did the R/T for me.

My Boss has a 70 GP with the 400 & A/T in it that he just finished.  It's silver with a black top and black interior.  very very clean and sharp!!

His daughter liked it soo much that she wanted to get her graduation pics taken with it........and of course he paid a bit extra to have some shots of the car by itself as well! ;D

If I can ever get him to bring his pics to work so I can scan them off then I'll post some here.
