Now that my build is done, I thought I would list some high points and low points.
Good:
Staightline Customs, Burnsville, MN. Got car disassembled on a rotisserie on Labor Day, got it back by thanksgiving with paint, sheetmetal fitted and suspension installed by thanksgiving the same year. Beautiful work, not cheap.
Silversport transmissions, overdrive automatic trans with controller. Kit included EVERYTHING and fit without issue, overdrive makes car. Again, not cheap.
Dakota Digital. Calibrated gauges and installed without issue. Not stock but not noticeably out of place
Classic auto air. Installed without issue and works great. Helpful techs. Wish it used fresh air intake, though.
Ron Francis. Very helpful techs helping figure out how to wire into Mopar switches.
Coys Wheels. Put effort into helping figure out a wheel and tire combination that looked how I wanted and fit well. 2 weeks from order to on my doorstep. Love the black chrome
Talon Hydroboost. Quick delivery, complete kit. easy install, Great brakes

Bad:
Sharadon performance, Ordered turn key motor. Been apart 3 time and still not happy. Heads not clearanced for push rods, non street friendly cam, mismatched cam/lifters with lifters faiing in less than 3 hrs run time. Junk rocker arms and hardware store bolts. They were given chance to make it right and chose not to.
Crane Cams, You dummies, if you have lifters backordered forever, don't sell a cam/lifter kit and send just the cam, or at least make a lifter recommendation.
Comp Cams, your hydraulic rollers are junk
PRW, rocker shafts scoring in less than 3 hrs run time
Instument Specialties, 7 months and sent back once. No tone control, crappy volume control, has taken out 2 sets of speakers. Didn't rechrome face plate. but waited 3 months for rechromed 8 track door. Had professional stereo shop try to do something with it and still sounds like crap. They claim there is nothing wrong with it. Over $800 of junk, makes me sick I have to live with it, as I have not found a 70 b body rally dash thumbwheel radio to replace it.

Glad to hear the SST install went well for you, as far as the radio, have you tried www.wardsclassiccarradiorepair.com IIRC they stopped working on the 8 track part of the radios, but have a reliable source for it's service repair

myk

I just KNOW the rebuild for my motor will be an ugly process.

How is your car now, OP?

fizz

I talked our office guy into getting pics on. Maybe today.

Engine story: I had a machine shop ive been using 30 years and a mechanic that has done repairs for me and a hot 454 for a hot rod project that was a similar, multi carb build that worked trouble free for the last 5 years. I got rapped around the axle about the 6 pack and was looking for a Mopar only shop that was familiar with stroker 6 pack engines. I screwed up. If I could do it again, and I just might, I would have my machine shop build the short block, order the cam, heads from Porter racing, have the 6 pack carbs gone through at promax or a carb specialty shop, and have my mechanic put it together, then buy a day at a good dyno shop. Dwayne Porter spent a bunch of time helping me out before and after this build, he just doesn't do complete engines anymore.
Engine pulls strong, but not as clean as 454. Not that big of a cam or too much compression to have to live with pouring in a quart of octane boost per tank and crappy idle. It gets better everytime I work on it. The guys here help a lot. I have to recurve the distributer yet, I'm sure, but at least its drivable now.

Its important to note, that when I picked the engine shop I said I wanted a stroker 440 of around 550 hp with the six pack, and street/road trip friendly, and I told them if my power requirements are too much for what I want, I would live with less power. Then I asked for price range, which was 9500 to 11,500, with me supplying carbs and intake. I took this to mean 12,500, and told them to build it and walked away, didn't try to tell them what parts to use. They came in at 9500, but who cares if it doesn't run right.

FWIW, I used to live just down the block from these guys and there was a reason that I didn't ever involve them in my GL build or my other project. Next time give Gary at Magnum Superchargers in Oak Grove a call. He's not a "Mopar only" shop but his work is best of breed. He did a fantastic job on the 440 build in my GL and is currently building an Indy stroker and Dana 60 for my 4-speed car. He has been fantastic to deal with over the years.

Can't wait to see some pics of your build.
