Im just reinstalling my old distributor, can someone tell me where the long black wire goes to the coil plus or minus side, and I have a little condenser does that bolt to the coil base and then the wire to the minus side of the coil?  Thanks for your help guys. Maybe if someone here has a stock 69 440 charger you could look at those wires and tell me were they go

Hi,

The distributor wire goes to the coil minus and the condenser wire goes to the coil plus and yes, it does bolt under the coil mounting bracket.

blinkey

Thanks Pete, so does the wire coming out of the harness go to plus side of coil for power?

Pete in NH

Yes, the Dark Blue wire from the harness goes to the plus side of the coil.

blinkey

Pete are you 100% that the outer condenser wire goes to plus side?? Is it like that on your car.

Pete in NH

I'm not sure what you mean by  the "outer" coil wire.

As I said, the wire from the distributor  goes to the coil negative. The coil positive has the dark blue feed wire and the lead from the condenser that is mounted under one of the coil bracket bolts. All this assumes you are using the old point set up in the distributor.

blinkey

Yes old point set up. But theres a condenser under the cap, Im not talking about this. Im talking about the condenser mounted to the coil bolt, Im almost positive it goes to the neg. on the coil.

The condenser mounted under the coil bolt goes to the positive coil terminal. It's there for radio noise suppression. If you connect it to the coil negative terminal the engine will run very poorly if at all.
