After 4 months and 6000 miles we have finally got our charger!Picked her up last Friday.Took us 16 hours there and 20 hours to bring her home on a trailer. Was a painfull trip but was worth every minute of it for me  :icon_smile_big:

You woudn't believe the amount of thumbs up,honks and stares we had!People were hanging outside there car windows to take pictures at 60 mph
At gas stations pictures were taken and questins asked, everybody just admired her!

cavemanno1

Wife wasn't too impressed at first but came around. However, my son loves it more then anything  :icon_smile_big:

cavemanno1

Wife managed to open the trunk as well as helping to take all 22 boxes out of the car.It doesn't have a lock so she wanted to figure it out how to open it up.

cavemanno1

These cars are huge and can fit half of a car inside piece by piece.Front windshield,full exhaust system,front suspension,frame rails,frame connectors,floors,trunk floors,22 boxes,wheel whells,rear valance,cross member etc.

DUDE!!! that car looks pretty darn good!!!!  the pics you took make it look better.....congrats man  :2thumbs:

cavemanno1

Thanks John!
She needs a lot of work but she is not too bad, fixable  :icon_smile_big: Where there is a will there is a way

Of course it wouldn't be possible without the help i got from here(especially Tan Top) and my good friend in Philadephia(1nasty69z)who stored and stuffed the car with parts! He is a magician to fit all these parts inside. :2thumbs:

Lennard

Congratulations on finally having the Charger in your possession. Now the fun begins!  :2thumbs:

I knew you would find YOUR car Peter!  :2thumbs: Let me know when you are ready for chassis tools?

CRW-FK5

Good for you on getting your car.  Looks like a fun project for you (and family, perhaps).  Looking forward to seeing the progress.  The car does look huge next to the other cars in the parking lot in that overhead view.

cavemanno1

Thanks guys!It is already so much fun.Just watching my son shifting gears, trying to reach the pedals and playing with tools makes my heart melt  :yesnod:
Proud of my wife as well because every time someone asks if this is the same as the dukes of hazzard charger she "educates" them about the side marker differences, the grill and tail lights.Of course everybody looks at her like she is mad. :icon_smile_big: Nobody here hasn't seen a '69 charger let alnoe would know the difference between years. But it's good listening at her talking cars and explaining things to people!

Got some funny stories already, old guy talking about his old pontiac in '63 that looked like this
Or got out of my wife's car and a guy looking at the charger says to me,unknowing that this is our car,"dream alive".Looked at him and said, yeah lucky someone, then opened the door of the charger. His jaw dropped and couldn't say a word. Then after he started coming with the money questions which i didn't like,so i shook him off.

Congrats!!  :2thumbs:

Be sure to take lots of pics during the build, especially with your son in the photos.  As he gets older, he'll understand how important it was to have helped his dad in the restoration process of his Charger.  My son appreciated every moment we worked together in the resto process of our 68 R/T.

Thank you!

My wife wants to make a blog about the build and the whole buying, shipping process so there will be lots of pictures!
She comes up with so much plans with the charger and it's great.Guess lot's better then fighting with me over every penny i will have to spend on it
She picked the color for the exterior and interior so i got her involved big time. Now she wants to learn how to veld

My next favorite car is a '70-74 'cuda.Showed her a '71 ' and she said that's beautiful.Told her that's your next car,so if you want after this charger is done,we can start looking for a 'cuda
All she said,as long as that doesn't cost this much like the charger okey!

Dino

Yay you got our dream ride!   :2thumbs:

Congrats Peter, enjoy the build. It's all about the journey of the restoration now, not just about the finished product.

Yeah, they have hundreds of american cars in their wareouse. If you think about they have been in business for 20+ years and there are more companies like them importing American cars everyday,it makes you wonder how many cars left in the States.Luckily they made millions of cars.

Thanks guys!

I had to rent a garage where i can open all these boxes.Sure i envy you guys with 3-4 cars garages.Over here i can put my ducati, our pushbikes and the boxes. But to open them up i will need a bigger space.Opening them up one by one and making notes what's what.Sure it's fun looking at all these new parts and thinking where they are belong on the car.

Will need more parts for sure but i'm glad i had bought and shipped the big items with the car.Paying tax on the new parts are crazily expensive in Netharland.21 percent of import tax and 3,5 percent import duties.Guess i'm still lucky because over here in Hungary that's 25 percent of import tax and 27 percent of import duty :brickwall:

So remember this when you say mopar parts cost a lot.For us Europeans we have to fork out a lot more for these.

God,i wish we could live in the States!!! :brickwall: :brickwall:

Peter you'll pay taxes here also! Sales 7%, Federal Income 20% and many states have income taxes, there are property taxes and special taxes for communication services and all manner of others....unless your a big corporation....then you don't pay anything!

Taxes here are nothing compared to Europe. I used to give over half my paycheck to the gov, 21% tax on all goods, hell we got taxed on taxes! Importing something is insanely expensive.

Peter I made the trip here almost ten years ago and I have loved every minute of it. It's not easy, it's expensive, and there's a lot of red tape to get through, but it's all worth it.   :yesnod:

10 years ago I worked in a body shop, now I'm about to start PA school. Sometimes I still can't believe it!

Yes it is great to make a dream come true.Had to sacrifice a lot for it and for us it's a lot more money. As i said earlier i could have bought a house for this kinda money but that wouldn't put a smile on my son's face and on mine.It would just mean more tax and dealing with tenants.

Dino,we have been trying to move out there for 4 years now but no luck so far.Over here my wife pays 54 percent tax,i pay 21 in England as i work in England.27 percent on all products here in Hungary so life can get hard for people here. :icon_smile_dissapprove:

Even better when the family is included. :yesnod:

I think what bothers me most about taxes I pay, is that so much is wasted. I do hope if you are paying that much....you getting something out of it.

On the Charger....

Dino

The only thing I ever got out of the high taxes was affordable health care. About $80 a year in early 2000. Private hospital room insurance was an additional $90 I believe but I'm sure that's all gone up.

They waste tax money as much over there as they do here, but over there you pay a hell of a lot more. People in the US just don't realize how good they have it.

As suspected.
Inefficiency/waste/fraud seems to be the nature of most places with high taxes.

It's a good question and you are not being a jerk!In a short answer,NOTHING whatsoever!
Health care is a joke.Long waiting lists, doctors, nurses just don't care. When you go to see a doctor they REQUIRE to give them gratuities and a lot.Hospitals, shcools are closing downs because they have no money to run even tho the goverment runs them, yet they have built at least 8-9 football stadions!!!
They built a stadion in a small village, popluation 350 people, where the leader of this whole corrupt goverment from.
Yet the education system is a joke, teachers are on strike because they have to teach what is nonsense, they are underpayed just like people in the healt care system. They tax you on everything,i mean on everything.
This whole system is clearly to brake people mind and spirit. Can't start your own business unless you have conections to the govermeant because all those red tapes and fees, yet the big corporations pay no tax or any contributions.
Imagine this.If you work for yourself and you want to give yourself let's say 500 dollar a month which is an ok but not good wage here, then you would have to pay 550 dollars to the govermant as tax after yourself. So if you have one guy working for you then you have to pay 1100 bucks a month just tax to run your company.

You guys have no idea how good it is over there for you. That is why we want to imigrate there.I was only be able to buy our charger because i have been working in England, over here no chance.

So to summ it up you pay tax on health care, yet you pay a lot more when seeing a doctor, pay for nursery, school, university,on your car,on your motorbike, road tax, engine displacement tax,'wealth tax" if you have a second car or a motorbike,on your property when bought or sold and monthy tax on it.When inherited a property or money you pay tax, when using your bank cars you pay, when paying with check you pay, when open a bank account or close it you pay, when wire money you pay tax and not to the bank!!!
27 percent on all goods, bread, milk, butter whatever....

They closed down the non govermantal radio and tv stations or sanctioned them fined them for some made up unregulations or breaking the law.
They can do aynthing whatever they or more likeily HE wants(Viktor Orban).

A lot of people used to say under the Sovjet regim it was bad but back then everybody had their own house, everybody worked and it was a criminal offence if you didn't work!!!You couldn't fly to Hawaai or New York that's true but twice a year familes went to the Lake here in Hungary.
Heath care was excellent and quick.Education was free and once finished you got a job starigh away.Your company land you the money to buy your house and there was no homless at all.
Of course that system had it's dark side as well but which one hasn't.Every goverment spys on you just now it's easier for them.Smartphones, smart tv and drones and everywhere.
If you ask me what i would prefer."Forced" to work in a foreign counrty to provide for my family, uncertain future for my son and daugher but have the freedome to travel anywhere or have a job at home,my own place, certain future for my family but i'd not be able to fly to New York?Guess which one i 'd choose.
Now you could fly everywhere you want just can't afford it.

When people see our charger they are not seeing just a car, they see how different can it be,that things are possible if you work hard enough for them!A piece of American DREAM.

People need to read this and understand the direction the US is going. This is where we are headed at light speed.......
Very cool that you got your Charger! Many good times ahead

Dino

This is not where the US is heading at all, I don't understand people who say that this country is going to hell. That's a lot of paranoia. You have unmatched freedom here. You can be a success story here in a 1001 ways.

No single country is perfect and people will always try to abuse the system, but you have to look at the big picture. It's damn good living here.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

dyslexic teddybear

It is true it's good living here.

Yet some of us see trends, things happening, that point us in the wrong direction.

Look at how free speech is being attacked on college campuses. Some protesters are not satisfied with protesting....they want to shut down opposing views so no one will hear those views.

A very slippery slope here.

Dino

There's always been a slippery slope on numerous issues. We have a long road to go toward a better society to be sure, but we've come a long way as well.

We'll figure it out.   :yesnod:
