Hi Guys
Sorry.... I know there is a string on here somewhere about this but I am not having any luck finding it...

Do you need to drop the tank to replace the round seal around the filler neck where it mates to the tank? Does anyone have the steps for replacing this seal?
Thanks!

Having just put an efi tank in mine, putting the seal in with the tank out laying on the trunk lid (non-restored rusty car) sure seems easier than trying to get it in place underneath.

I was able to replace this seal from the trunk w/out dropping the tank.

You don't need to drop the tank, although it helps, but you should pt some slack in the two straps.

I needed a new tank, straps, seals, and strap bolts so I put the tank in place with the straps barely attached. That gave me enough room to move the tank around. Getting the neck into the seal was pretty easy this way.

Also remove the fuel cap and loosen the filler neck. The more movement you can get on these parts, the easier the install. You don't want to jam the neck into the tank and ruin the new seal.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Through the filler neck opening in the truck floor.  Aha.  Didn't think of that.  My trunk is grubby/rusty and I didn't want to desturb the filler neck to floor seal when I did my efi.  With that out of the way, yeah, it probably wouldn't be bad.  I posted before I had my Frosted Flakes this morning.

Sounds great! Thank you! I am hoping to get this done over the upcoming weekend.
