Ball park price of a complete 4 speed setup.

I'm considering going with a four speed in my charger when I get to the drive terrain phase. What is a ballpark price for a complete 4-speed setup? Including tranny, clutch, pedals, etc. Just curious if a 4-speed setup would be much cheaper than a 5 or 6-speed. This will be for a 70 charger.

Thanks in advance,

Marshall

Yes, I know I have too many cars. My wife reminds me daily.

Depending on options, you can get a full 'conversion kit' from passon or brewers for around $4000. That'll get you a rebuilt trans, bellhousing, flywheel, clutch pack, hump, pedals, crossmember, new production shifter, handle, linkages, boots, throwout arm, z bar and mounts, and a bunch of ancillary stuff that's hard to remember.

You can definitely shave a lot off that total by buying used, and hunting for deals:

Won't you need the proper crankshaft, also?

Just a roller bearing for the flange, if his engine doesn't have the pilot hole in the crank for a bushing. And he'll have to cut about 3/8" off the input shaft.

I am swapping my 727 for a 833 and just ordered the kit from Brewers - $5100 for everything (not shipped) including shifter, carpet, trans hump, rebuilt 833 and all parts.

I also got a quote from SST for a Tremec TKO 5 speed and its was $6500 (not shipped) for everything not including carpet or sheet metal for cutting the tunnel.

IMHO I would rather have the real deal 833 and add a GVOD later if I wanted.

I went SST, it was roughly 6200 shipped. with EVERYTHING including Hyd clutch and sheet metal. I could not wait for the Passion or McLoed trans.

Complete over drive unit from Passon Perf for $3200. You can probably get everything else from him also.

That is just the 833 OD, the OP needs everything.

Not to derail the thread, how tough was the install?  Did your current carpet fit?  Is the shifter centered or offset like the 833?

Not sure of price though

A T-56 ain't going into a classic Mopar with the stock tunnel intact.  It's all getting hacked out.

The 4L60E is the option with the least amount of cutting,  right?

Craigslist is your friend if you have time and patience. I put a complete kit together for under 1000 including a brand new clutch. Everything else was bought used.

Thanks for the replies guys!  :2thumbs:  I may have to stick with an automatic until I can find a used 4-speed setup.  I didn't realize that conversion was so freakin expensive.  :o

Lol agreed.  Some of the options mentioned cost as much as an engine build...

Wouldn't seem unreasonable to me to ask somewhere in the $2k-$3k range depending on condition of all the pieces

I talked to Jamie and Passon today.  Still seems that I am years (if ever) away from his 5 speed.  For his 18 spline Hemi OD complete kit its $7100 shipped.  I am going with an 18 spline kit from Brewers, should be here in a month.

that's what I did...if you don't then you will ruin the engine... :icon_smile_tongue:

Either of the above mentioned suppliers can provide a trans with a shortened input shaft for just this situation  :yesnod:

Supply and demand.  I wonder how much it would cost to get the transmission produced and delivered faster?
