Oil Change Question...

I just changed the oil in my '69 for the first time in 13 years. Don't be alarmed. 12.5 years of that was spent in one shop or another. I changed it for the first time about 600 miles after the rebuild. I had forgotten how much of a pain in the a$$ it is to keep the oil from the filter going all over the K frame and suspension. Is there anything you guys do besides just having a rag or cardboard under the filter to help with the situation? It made a real mess that will probably take a few trips to get all the excess oil off...

I cut up a gallon milk or water jug and make a scoop that funnels the drippings away from the K frame. (Also save old socks for rags.  )

This isn't a cost effective solution, but the QA1 K member isn't in the way of filter drippings nearly as bad as the stock unit.

I just use a plastic grocery bag....put the bag over filter as far as you can, spin it off while inside the bag....very little mess

I've got some Brad Penn oil en route; that'll help out a lot...

I usually just fold up some cardboard and drain slowly until the filter is empty.

I changed my oil today and forgot all about the plastic bag over the filter thing. Oil just ran all over and I knew there was a better way but was kinda in a hurry since it was beginning to rain...

I put mine up on the lift and just use a peice of scrap cardboard or plastic, whatever is in the trashcan at the time. Its not rocket science. A rag will catch any other drips during the process.
