Dipstick tube: natural?

I have a '71 440 so the dipstick runs a little different than one on a '69, but let's assume it's a '69...is the dipstick natural and the handle semi gloss black? It was all orange on mine but I don't think that's right. If it is natural, what's a good paint to mimic that? I want some paint on there  to protect it.

What about the 727 trans tube? Same story or is this one all black?

I'm going to use semi gloss black on the pulleys and various brackets. It'll probably be more glossy than the factory's semi gloss but it should look nice. K member I may do full gloss, I have a few cans of VHT roll bar and chassis black and I think it'll look nice.

I did some research on the web for you, the consensus I came up with is the transmission tube is all natural. The oil dipstick tube is natural with a black handle on the actual dipstick in 70 and up.

As for paint....you could just clearcoat them maybe? or use RPM on them, or a special paint designed to duplicate bare metal? I know eastwood has some bare metal finish paints and I think POR does as well.

Again this is just my own internet research and it may or may not be correct. I'm sure whatever you decide to do, it will turn out good and you will be happy  :2thumbs:

Thanks! I'll shoot both with some natural steel color and leave it at that. I can always go back and give the handles some color if I want to.   :yesnod:
